Q. How and why did you join Topcoder?
I stumbled upon the site when I was searching for some article to learn web design, since my aim is to improve my web design skill and Topcoder is good platform to meet a real design challenge. I’ve been pretty active ever since I joined.
Q. What was it that first attracted you to the technology field?
It’s just nice to see your own creation being used everywhere, my very first project is designing a brochure for charity events, as a designer you know you have the capability to deliver information in many ways for many purposes, reconstruct cluttered information to make it easy to understand, but still eye pleasing, It’s a challenge and giving self accomplishment at the same time, I guess this is what attracted me the first time.
Q. How did you acquire the skills you needed?
I am a self taught, so pretty much a trial error process, and internet has amazing source to learn, so it’s an endless process of learning even now.
Q. What are you working on now that excites you?
Right now I am trying to hone my skills for mobile UI, It’s fun to work on this category.
Q. What are your best words of wisdom for other girls/women starting out in technology field?
Don’t get discouraged and don’t let society dictate you how to choose your interest based on the stigma what girls supposed to learn.
Q. What can be done to encourage more girls/women to pursue technical careers?
I guess there are many ways to do this, but it takes everyone to participate, especially girls at an early age, Show them many succeed female role model, what they contributed to help them change the perspective that technology field is got nothing to do with gender.
