Challenge Overview

Project Overview

This is the third challenge of SoftBank ideation challenge series.

The goal of this challenge is to come up with new service idea that attracts interest to people and enriches people’s lives using Blockchain (Smart Contract) technology.

Competition Task Overview

In the first challenge (https://www.topcoder.com/challenge-details/30056871/?type=develop) of SoftBank Ideation Challenge Series, we have provided detail scenario where people can rent drones to send boxes to his/her friends.

This scenario was in imaginary world, where we think that Blockchain technology is a fit and could change our way of living.

For this challenge, we would like to hear much more innovative scenario than the drone rental scenario provided in the first challenge that is  a fit for this technology such as providing a user with some sort of unmanned service.

From the idea given, customer would want to implement a prototype or demo able application(s) in future.
From this standpoint, the system or application idea should attract people and also has good reasoning to use Blockchain - meaning it should be an idea that many would understand and easy to explain how Blockchain (chaincode) is used and that is different from legacy systems. As a hint, services and idea that has current trends like sharing economy, IoT, AR/VR are seen to attract people more.

Requirement:

1. Idea should be clear on advantages using Blockchain. When we say Blockchain, we mean that use of Smart Contract (or chaincode of Hyperledger Fabric)

1.1. As a hint, one of the advantage of Blockchain is that it is an technology to  reduce human intervention. Combination of Blockchain and IoT system (like the drone scenario we provided in first challenge) fits the model well. Although you do not need to think only in this structure, “Blockchain + IoT” might be good place to start drafting your idea.

2. Idea should be attractive and realistic to create demo system for the customer.

3. As same as the first challenge, individual identification (human and machine) can be done by SIM, and the service payments will be done via telecom company’s payment.

4. Idea should have grand design of how Hyperledger Fabric will be used.

4.1. The idea should be clear on the advantage of using Blockchain over traditional system model is clarified.

4.2. The idea should be complete with the scenario and actors.

4.3. The document should have overview of key contract and state machine/transition when implemented with Hyperledger Fabric. Following URL is portion from the document that won prize in the first challenge. We are looking for same item for the key contract (overview, state machine diagram/breif description, brief overview of stored data).

5. Digging into details of technical challenge area to provide inputs to future implementations is considered as plus.

Notes

You’re fine to come up with your own assumptions to realize the idea, but those should be feasible and realistic. Please state the assumptions in the documents.

Output Format

1. A document more than 4 pages in Word or PDF format to describe your architecture.

2. It should be written in plain English.

3. Use of charts, diagrams and tables to explain your ideas is highly encouraged.

Judging Criteria

As an ideation challenge, this contest will be judged subjectively by the client and Topcoder. However, the following criteria will largely be the basis for the judgement. We will be sharing the scores to forums for each submissions after the challenge:

1. Innovativity and Attractability (30%)

1.1. Will people get attracted to your idea if it is implemented as prototype or demo?
1.2. Do your idea state the advantage of using Blockchain over traditional technology / eco-system clearly.

1.3. Is your idea seen as innovative? ex. fun, that has high social contribution, or has potential to change the way we live in a good way, etc.

2. Feasibility (30%)

2.1. The idea should be able to create prototype or demoable application/system to show to people. Is your idea feasible and realistic?
2.2. Are the steps to create prototype or demo clear to understand from your idea?

3. Completeness of high level grand design (20%)

3.1. Is your idea complete with scenario and use cases with all the actors written?
3.2. Do your idea have overview of how Blockchain be used, and have section that matches the doc from challenge #1 on the key contract?

4. Readability (20%)

4.1. Easy to understand.
4.2. Tables and figures are highly recommended.
4.3. Is document clear on the assumptions you made, what is your unique idea that could differentiate from other submissions.

Checkpoint

1. We are awarding 5 checkpoint prizes at $100 for each chosen winner. Checkpoint submissions must be submited by 4/4/2017 at 9:00 EDT

2. You do not have to submit for checkpoint to earn final prizes. But in order to qualify for the checkpoint prizes you must submit to the final round.
