Challenge Summary

Welcome to the Opportunity Management Web App Design Concepts Challenge. In this challenge, we are looking for your designs for a web app that allows the users to enter, track, rank, and select new technology opportunities received from partners in the Energy sector. Opportunities tracked in the system will be evaluated, ranked, and selected for testing and development and then moved on to implementation. Creating a user-centric solution will allow our team to more effectively manage the process for bringing new technologies to our operations.

Read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. Let us know if you have any questions in the challenge forum!

APPLICATION OVERVIEW
The client of this challenge is an independent energy company engaged in the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas.

This application will allow users to identify and keep track of new technology opportunities from partners in the Energy sector. Opportunities and new technologies are introduced to the company through various partners that help with technology scouting. Those opportunities are moved forward as a pilot within the company and proceed to implementation.

To get more out of our partner relationships, it is important to know where each opportunity originated, and understand the value each provider is bringing in. We need an application that helps manage this information.

Core goals of this app:

  • Enter new opportunities received from partner companies that are relevant to company needs or interests
  • Evaluate these new technologies
  • Rank and chose which opportunities to pilot (test)
  • Track the efficacy of process (e.g. throughput, churn rate)
  • Assess the value of partnerships (source of opportunities)

DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS

  • To create the user interface of a web application in desktop format
  • To provide a seamless flow to complete user goals.
  • Elegant, clean, simple, user-centered look and feel with a modern aesthetic
  • Engaging and easy-to-navigate UI
  • In the future, this application will be made responsive. Please keep this in mind while designing your screens

AUDIENCE

  • Standard Users who enter, evaluate, and rank opportunities
  • Coordinator who manages the process
  • The admin who maintains the app

SCREEN REQUIREMENTS
For this challenge, we are looking for the following screens to be created in your submission. The functionality details listed below must be included in your solution:

01 Dashboard

  • Display technology opportunities that are being tracked
  • Show the status of each of the opportunities (reviewed, not reviewed, under evaluation, etc.)
  • We would like to include some statistics, basically, we need to see insights on overall timeframe an opportunity takes from when it is selected for the pilot to the start of the pilot  for example:
    • How many new opportunities are coming from each partner source? How many are moving on from evaluated to ranked to pilot?
    • How quickly are opportunities from each provider being implemented?
    • How quickly are standard users moving an opportunity through each step in the process? Do we have bottlenecks in the process? from different statuses, i.e. from something not reviewed to implementation / this should help us get some insight on what stages of our process could be improved.
    • How many opportunities are assigned to each member of the team and are awaiting review?
  • Provide a way to manage the opportunities details

02 Manage Opportunities

  • Display all opportunities entered
  • Include search and filters to refine the list of opportunities displayed
  • Provide a way to manage the opportunities details
  • Provide a way for the user to create/add a new opportunity
  • Potentially provide a “traffic rating” to understand which entries are most frequently visited.

03 Opportunity Details

  • This will need to have the details of the opportunity, some of the details required in this page are: Product name, Company name, Source, Team owner (user), Technology theme, Description, Status, Classification tags, etc
  • List of people working/researching, and who is the internal owner of this opportunity
  • We need to allow users to collaborate on each entry, how do you think it can be handled (forum discussion, comment section, etc) - open to your thoughts.

04 Create New Opportunity
Based on the details captured in the Opportunity Details page, we need to come up with this page. Think about how best it can be arranged.
