1 Project Overview

The CS-Stem project will contain a number of different activities for users to participate in. We have a number of ideas that are going to be implemented, and one is the scavenger hunter activity. The goal of this contest is to formalize what functionality will be available and get ideas for how the activity will work and how activity participation will be tracked and scored.

The scavenger hunter activity is an updated take on "The Ball", an application TopCoder built a few years ago. It is not so much a game as it is a reading comprehension test. Users will load the activity, which will be an HTML wrapper around an iFrame that loads a third party site. The "ball" is embedded on the loaded 3rd party site and is exposed when the user mouses over a configurable area.

This contest will define how the activity is scored, tracked, what achievements are available, and sample content for a singe flow through the scavenger hunt activity.

A proof of concept is deployed here. There are a number of bugs, but it shows the general concept. We are currently working on adding storyboard functionality for showing hints and skinning the activity, but this will not be done in time for the conceptualization.
