Are you looking for a high-visibility design opportunity that is also a lot of fun? You've found it - redesigning the look and feel of an Arcade! The redesign is all about fun, excitement and cutting-edge modern web design. We want to see it all! Entries must be your original work, and must not infringe on the copyright or licenses of others. Stock art, clip art, templates and other design elements from other sources are prohibited unless specifically permitted here in the Contest Details.


Tournament Format This Studio competition will be run as a two-round tournament with a total prize purse of $2000. Round 1 At the end of Round 1 on January 22, 2009, we will choose FIVE (5) first round winners; EACH will win $100 and a Design Review. These winners and ANY MEMBER WHO SUBMITTED TO ROUND ONE will be eligible to compete in Round 2 for the additional $1500 in prizes. Round 2 Round 2 will start with the announcement of the Five $100 Round 1 winners and their design review. ---------------------------------------------------------- We are now in Round 2 (1/23/09) Please view the forums for individual feedback Please ask the client any questions in the Forums All members who submitted to Round 1 are eligible to compete in Round 2 IMPORTANT You may use images from the Arcade site as long as they are Arcade or client related - no third party ads (use place holders for the ad space - or create your own ads) Round 2 judging criteria What we will be looking for - in order of importance 1) Graphic Design and overall completion of your design 2) Understanding of client feedback 3) Interactive elements ---------------------------------------------------------- Background and Overview We are looking for new ideas that will keep this high-profile arcade site at the forefront of arcade-style sites. In addition to redesigning the page, you will need to add in some new elements. Branding Your design must include the Arcade logo as well as the clients red color. Other colors, graphics, textures are up to you! You can alter the logo if it works well with your new design. Your new design must work well with the new ESPN.com design. Existing Page Elements The following items must be included in your design. The layout, organization and look and feel are up to you. - Navigation/Register/Login area - Footer information - Top Played/Top Ranked games - My Trophies - A break-out of Genres - Game of the Month - Trophy leaders - Ad spots New additions - Favorites (for a logged in user) - Challenges/Groups (an area that provides a group-specific leader board, etc. like an NCAA bracket challenge) - Adding a more fun/engaging way to select or preview games. For example, a Cover Flow style selector (like this one: http://widgets.aol.com/). Especially important is the idea to tier it (First select from a list of Genre's, then list the games for the genre, for example) - An area for game suggestions (community driven - like a game wall) Interactive Elements You should explain any interactive areas you place in your design. If you wish to include multiple views or a text file explaining your ideas - please do so. The more we can understand your ideas and intentions the better shot you have at a prize. Round 1 judging criteria What we will be looking for - in order of importance 1) Concepts 2) Layout 3) Interactive Elements 4) Graphic Design Round 2 will concentrate on the graphic design execution of your ideas with the client feedback. Research Please do your research - look at competitor arcade and gaming websites - review and learn about the new ESPN site design - review current graphic and web design trends Preview Image Your preview image should be your Arcade Home Page design with no added effects or skewing.

Please read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.

How To Submit

  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.

Your Design Files:

  1. Look for instructions in this challenge regarding what files to provide.
  2. Place your submission files into a "Submission.zip" file.
  3. Place all of your source files into a "Source.zip" file.
  4. Declare your fonts, stock photos, and icons in a "Declaration.txt" file.
  5. Create a JPG preview file.
  6. Place the 4 files you just created into a single zip file. This will be what you upload.

All fonts, stock photos, and icons within your design must be declared when you submit. DO NOT include any 3rd party files in your submission or source files. Read about the policy.
