Challenge Summary

Get the latest news, photos, features, fashion and updates on the 2009 Oscars/Academy Awards. In this contest, you will be designing several screens of an engaging, highly-interactive widget. Bring out your best designs and show us what you've got! You can reference http://widgets.aol.com/widget/detroit-auto-show widget as a starting point for this widget.

Entries must be your original work, and must not infringe on the copyright or licenses of others. Stock art, clip art, stock photography, templates and other design elements from other sources are prohibited unless specifically permitted here in the Contest Details.

Goal The goal of the widget is to engage and delight users, re-circulate users to the Moviefone Oscars/Academy Awards package, keep users coming back to the widget with relevant, updated content, and encourage users to share the widget with other people. How the Widget Works 1. User is presented with a gallery of photos promoting Moviefone Oscars/Academy Awards features 2. User is presented with the latest Oscars news (taken from top Entertainment sources). Note: this content may scroll; we are looking for a creative presentation of this content 3. User is presented with one short Oscar/Academy Awards poll where he/she should have the ability to vote on who they think will win at the Oscars. Polls will have no more than five options to vote for, no less than three. Results page will link off to full Oscars poll on Moviefone. (Note: Editorial content of this tab may change, but layout and behavior will remain the same.) Things to Consider - Compelling gallery functionality; at least 1 photo must be displayed at one time, no more than 3 should be displayed at one time. Photo should determine the "headline" displayed. - What if a user attempts to select more than one choice to vote? Only one vote is allowed. Target Audience Anyone who is interested in the Academy Awards. This widget will be viewed, used and shared by individuals who are excited about movies, celebs and celeb/awards fashions. Design Considerations - The visual design and interactions should be easily understood, compelling and show the depth that the widget has to offer. - Primary focus should be on user experience flow and interactive components. - Flow must be clean and easy to navigate. - The header graphic is for inspiration and thought; does not need to be strictly followed - you can view it at http://movies.aol.com/oscars-academy-awards. Design Requirements - Widget must be 300 pixels in width and between 250 and 400 in height. - There must be a voting results with the ability to go back to the standard view of the widget. - Widget title should be 2009 Oscars(r) on Moviefone (can refer to the artwork located at http://movies.aol.com/oscars-academy-awards). Deliverables You are required to design three (3) screens based on the following - - please reference existing widget http://widgets.aol.com/widget/detroit-auto-show (all three tabs specified are called out in that widget as well): Tab #1 (Photos): Landing page needs to be highly visual and appealing, highlighting at least 1 photo and 3-5 links to "more Oscars features" - Photos cannot be larger than 150x100 -- the size above is acceptable. - Photos need to be uploaded by Moviefone editors. - Headline should be "tied" to specific photo and able to be edited by Moviefone editors. - Do not include poll button - Instead of "latest news" as on the Auto Show widget, subhed should be "More Oscars Features" -- this text should be editable by Moviefone editors There should be room for 3-5 links below and this text should be editable by Moviefone editors - Moviefone logo (where AOL autos is currently) is included - Sponsored links should be represented as on the Auto Show widget. Tab #2 (News): - Headline: "Latest Oscars (needs to include the registered Trademark Symbol) News" - "View All News" should link to http://movies.aol.com/oscars-academy-awards/news - News items should display as above and be scrollable - News source: http://movies-rtn.web.aol.com/rdg/getAssetsMetaClustered?f=xml&appId=MOVIES&qTxt=movies:event:oscars&qTyp=entity&sHdln=1&fLng=en&dPgOff=0&dPgCnt=7&fRelMn=0&fSgrp=3000&sPubDt=1&sUrl=1&sMedTyp=1&sSrc=1&sSnipt=1&sTopc=1&c=getAssetsNewsCallback Tab #3 (Poll): - User is given one poll question, with no more than five choices to choose from, no less than three. - Upon voting, the user is presented with the current voting results of all those who have voted. - The following data must be displayed after the user votes: % of votes of the top result with respective result info (actor name or movie title, etc.); followed by the % of votes of the second result with respective result info (actor name or movie title, etc.) and so forth. On the poll results page, there should be a photo (thumbnail sized) and a link to take the full Oscars poll on Moviefone (this text should be configurable and editable by Moviefone editors). Should be option for editor to remove the photo if needed. You are highly encouraged to create additional screens based on the flow of the widget.
