Challenge Summary

The 2009 TopCoder Open is TopCoder's premier event of the year. Help us build out the design of the event program that details the schedule, the finalists, and our sponsors. Your work should compliment the visual style of the TCO09 tournament website so everything appears unified. It must also work with the provided design of the cover and competitor spreads. Click here to see the TCO09 website.
Contest Goal The goal of this contest is to design the competition spreads. A spread consists of a set of facing left and right pages. Each onsite competition (Algorithm, Marathon, Mod Dash, and Studio) will have a spread dedicated to the competition with a description page and bracket page. It is important for each competition description page to be unique to the competition it is describing. It is also important that the design works well with the competitors spread designs provided. Design Considerations We need a design that is visually attractive and embodies the competitive spirit of the entire event. This design also needs to flow with the chosen front and back cover designs as well as competitor page design. Although the spreads need to follow the established look and feel, it is also very important to also have each spread have enough uniqueness to show which competition track it is representing. There should be some consistency within these spreads as they are part of the overall program - but you do have the freedom to add "personality" to each one that helps describe the track. Competition Spreads For Algorithm: The left side of the spread should include the text "Algorithm Competition" prominently featured. It should also include the text "What Are We Watching?" The right side of the page should show the bracket. The bracket should have spots for 18 semifinalists and then 8 finalists move on to the final round with one winner. Your design should also show page numbers. Required text and three (3) images are provided for download and must be included. For Marathon: The left side of the spread should include the text "Algorithm Competition" prominently featured. It should also include the text "What Are We Watching?" The right side of the page should show the bracket. The bracket should include 10 competitors for the final round with one winner. Your design should also show page numbers. Required text and one (1) image is provided for download and must be included. For Mod Dash: The left side of the spread should include the text "Mod Dash" prominently featured. It should also include the text "What Are We Watching?" The right side of the page should show the bracket. The bracket should include 8 competitors for the final round with one winner. Your design should also show page numbers. Required text is provided for download and must be included. For Studio: The left side of the spread should include the text "Studio Design Competition" prominently featured. It should also include the text "What Are We Watching?" Please take this opportunity to showcase what Studio is visually as well since sometimes text cannot describe the wonderful things the community designs on an every day basis. The right side of the page should show the bracket. The bracket should include 10 competitors for the final round with one winner. Your design should also show page numbers. Required text is provided for download and must be included. You may include the TopCoder Studio logo provided on this spread if you wish, but it is not required. Target Audience: The target audience will be the TCO09 finalists, prospect clients, sponsors, and other clients. Branding Guidelines: The design should follow the look and feel established in the previous contest for the covers and competitors spread design. DO NOT add any additional logos, including the TopCoder logo or Sponsor logos. All instances of any logos must retain the correct aspect ratio. You may use the TopCoder Studio logo provided on the Studio spread only, if you wish - it is not a requirement. Judging Criteria: Your designs will be judged on the following: Creativity - How well the program displays the look and excitement of the 2009 TopCoder Open. Execution - The quality of the graphics as well as following the provided guidelines. Preview Image Please create your preview image as one (1) 1024x1024 JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place your submission within it. You are free to resize or crop your submission to fit this size, but do not add any filters or elements for dramatic effect, such as drop shadows or reflections. It should be a screenshot of one of your spread designs.

Please read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.
