Challenge Summary

Ferguson has been running a series of contests to updated their corporate website. In this contest, you will be creating the Flash Animation for the content area of the Ferguson Home page based on the provided Storyboard Designs. This Flash area must be visually fun and engaging. The Flash animation should include innovative transitions and subtle yet engaging animations. This contest will be run in the Studio Tournament format. Please read the contest specification and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this contest. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.
Studio Tournament Format This competition will be run as a two-round tournament with a total prize purse of $1250. Round One (1) At the end of Round One, Ferguson will choose FIVE (5) review winners; each will win $50 and a Design Review. These winners and any member who had a passing submission in Round One will be eligible to compete in Round 2 for the additional $1000 in prizes. Important in Round 2 - Make sure your images look good and are trimmed properly - Please review the Requirements and make sure your submissions meet the requirements - The client has created a list of image transitions to help you get closer to what they would like in R2 - The client has also provided a list of Flash transitions they like - please do not combine them all - you will need to review their suggestions and make some design decisions. Good Luck! ------------------------------------------------------------------ Overview The Ferguson Home Page is the main entrance to anyone trying to learn about Fergusion. For this contest, you must take the provided storyboard design and convert the content area into into an exciting, fun and engaging Flash design. Home Page Contest Area There are two user paths a visitor to Ferguson.com can travel down. 1) Professional 2) Homeowner For this contest you need to create a simple yet engaging Flash Animation for both paths while keeping the provided look and feel. Requirements - Continue the image mask cutout look - Professionals must be a link to Professionals.html - Homeowner must be a link to Homeowner.html - Each path must have a cycle of images (animation is up to you) - Each path must have an engaging "link" when the user interacts with the animation. (This can be changed from the provided storyboard) - If a user doesn't have Flash you must provide an alternative image or solution that is seamless to the user. (we will not serve up a "Download Flash" alert - they will see an alternative static solution.) Additional Requirements - The created Flash design must look like the provided storyboards. - ActionScript 3 (AS3) must be used - Any other transitions, interactions or animations are up to you. Your converted Flash design must be fully interactive, fully functional and must use ActionScript 3. IMPORTANT Presentation Requirements The Flash design should be set within an HTML page of the provided storyboard design. The HTML file does not need to be fully interactive (just your Flash piece). The HTML file is needed to show the entire page design for demo/proof of concept purposes. - The Flash Design should be centered like the provided storyboard design - The HTML page should have a continuous background to fill the browser window - You will need to provided the solution that serves up the alternative image/content (this can be found on the internet - javascript solutions etc.) Judging Criteria Your submission will be judged on the following: - The smoothness of the animations and transitions. - The creative approach considering the flash experience. - Organization and cleanliness of the Actionscript code. You MUST use AS3 in this contest. Submission & Source Files Preview Image For this contest, please use a screenshot that demonstrates some interaction or transition. Do NOT alter, skew or add dramatic effect to this image. The client will need to review the look and feel of the submission as is. Submission File One (1) SWF file embedded in one (1) HTML file and any/all files that are needed to make your Flash design work. The only files you should not include here are the layered original graphic files and/or font files, if applicable (which belong in your "source" folder). Any Flash or actionscript source files provided as part of your submission will not be made available as downloads from the studio site. Please check your image paths for both Mac OS and Windows Source Files Same as "submission" folder PLUS any original graphic files used in the widget creation from Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape must be provided in the zip file in a folder named "original graphics" Final Fixes As part of the final fixes phase you may be asked to modify your animation or modify the provided photos.

How To Submit

  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.

Submission format

Your Design Files:

  1. Look for instructions in this challenge regarding what files to provide.
  2. Place your submission files into a "Submission.zip" file.
  3. Place all of your source files into a "Source.zip" file.
  4. Declare your fonts, stock photos, and icons in a "Declaration.txt" file.
  5. Create a JPG preview file.
  6. Place the 4 files you just created into a single zip file. This will be what you upload.

Fonts, Stock Photos, and Icons:

All fonts, stock photos, and icons within your design must be declared when you submit. DO NOT include any 3rd party files in your submission or source files. Read about the policy.
