Challenge Summary

Design one web page for a cutting edge new automotive manufacturer Local Motors (see "Company and Customer Profile" below). This page will be used to promote the upcoming Local Motors production vehicles for prospective customers. It will also sell "positions" on the list of prospective buyers that will determine the order in which customers can purchase their vehicles when available. Mid-Contest Feedback Included This Studio competition will be run with mid-point feedback. For every submission that is received by Monday, June 15th at 10am EDT, we will provide feedback on your design and/or design approach in the forums. Your design itself will NOT be viewable by the other competitors. They will only be able to see the feedback you receive. This is a great opportunity to find out how you are doing and give you a better chance to be successful in this contest. We heavily encourage this as the client can help guide you during the process!
** IMPORTANT NOTE ON REQUIREMENTS ** The contest requirements and the downloadable files will also be available on the contest forums. If there is a difference between what is stated in the Contest Details and the Forums, you MUST refer to the Contest Details page, which will have the correct requirements. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- OBJECTIVE To create one web page for the www.local-motors.com website which will be used to promote our first Local Motors model and sell $99 deposits on that model. COMPANY PROFILE Local Motors is a new car manufacturer of limited production, environmentally friendly, community-designed specialty vehicles where customers participate in the build process in a build program at the micro-factory. This web site hosts a web community of car enthusiasts, engineers and transportation designers that collaborate to assist the design actual production vehicles. This "Buy" page provides the first page/section specifically for Local Motors customers. DELIVERABLES Please consider this a checklist of items that MUST be met in order for your submission to be accepted. If you have ANY questions about whether you are meeting the criteria, post a message in the forum! Deliver An Image of the Web Page in 2 States: [ ] Image 1 - show/hide Content is hidden: Hide the "show/hide" content in "buy a number" section [ ] Image 2 - show/hide Content is expanded: Show ALL "show/hide" content in "buy a number" section: - Existing purchases - Bullets below steps 1, 2 & 3 - Login/register content - The "shopping cart" CONTENT REQUIREMENTS [ ] Build Experience Graphic: Page layout needs to prominently place an image that shows the factory where customers will participate in building their own vehicles. You should determine the size and shape of this image, and when a visitor clicks on it, it will "lightbox" into a full-sized image. This image has not yet been created but will be created by our internal designers, so please put in an image of your choosing as a placeholder for it. [ ] Car name: Display the product (vehicle) name "Rally Fighter" prominently on this page. Since this page will be used for other vehicles, this must be text, not an image. [ ] "Buy a number" section: This will be the main focus of the page, and when the show/hide content is hidden, must appear ABOVE THE FOLD on a 1024x678 px screen when using the standard configuration of Firefox 3. This section must include the content specified in the "Want a Rally Fighter? Follow these steps" section of our existing live buy page at http://www.local-motors.com/buy.php?p=1 (the 3 "More" sections must be expanded to see all of this content). [ ] Vehicle Specifications section: The content for this section is specified in the existing buy page in the "Specifications" box at http://www.local-motors.com/buy.php?p=1. Please be creative about presenting this information. [ ] Youtube Video Carousel: A tool to provide a selection of video content available to this page. This already exists (see attached carousel.png) 253px High x 265px Wide. You may play with the colors and font. [ ] "Shoppers Comments" section: can be quotes, links to comments on site, video interviews, highlights of community participation in its design, including related competitions. [ ] Small "Google Map": display a small Google Map of the USA sized to fit your well in your design (somewhere in the range of 300x200 px). [ ] Comment box: present a box where people can comment on this vehicle and/or web page. Must include a "add comment" button. [ ] Link to our "rules" page: This page explains the local motors process and experience (see http://www.local-motors.com/rules.php) [ ] Link to our "Build Story" page: details the history of community design of the Rally Fighter (see http://www.local-motors.com/buildProcessDet.php?c=1771) [ ] Include a "Car Chat" content section: you may format this section as you choose, but the data in this section will be the same data that appears on the local-motors.com web site now at http://www.local-motors.com/studioHome.php and also at http://www.local-motors.com/carchat.php. Think of this as a link to all comments made everywhere on the site (including comments made on this page in the "Shoppers Comments" section. [ ] Capture Zip Code: Prompt for zip code of where they would like a Local Motors micro-factory. Please suggest text to label/explain this section, and include a text box and a button for capturing the zip code. [ ] Register: Provide an eye-catching button or graphic that hyperlinks to our registration page [ ] Newsletter Opt In: Provide an opt-in section for our newsletter on this vehicle. This section must be properly identified (opt-in for "Rally Fighter" newsletter), have room for 40 words to describe the newsletter, and a "subscribe" button. [ ] Poll section: There should be a section for a brief poll. For design purposes, present one question with 4 brief answers. Do not worry about displaying results in this design. [ ] Download Brochure: Create an eye-catching "download brochure" button or clickable image, and include the text "Click here to learn more about the Rally Fighter". This could be related to the "Vehicle Specifications" section listed above or the Primary Image as both would describe the first Local Motors model. [ ] Logo: The Logo at the top needs to be shrunk by you to an appropriate size to accommodate the design of this new page. [ ] Navigation: Use the same navigation design provided in the attached LM_HomePage_Design.zip. - Design a "sub nav" for the existing top nav. The menu options should be "Rally Fighter" (selected), "Boston Bullet", and "Signature Items" - Design some other visual navigation for selecting which product (vehicle) to display on this buy page DESIGN REQUIREMENTS - Page Size: Design page for 1024x768 displays using Standard FireFox 3 browser - Standard Font: Our standard web fonts are Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif - Color Scheme: Gray gradient (use attached home page mock-up homePage.zip as a color guide) - Hyperlinks: For the purposes of this competition, design all text links in the color #F8F8FF with no underline. - Guidelines for Site Wide Design Characteristics: match styles used in the new home page design (homePage.zip attached), including colors, typefaces and sizes, borders, spacing, top navigation, etc. - Be Creative: This is only the second page on this site in this gray design, the first of which is the new home page (homePage.zip, attached). Be creative in your interpretation of what design elements should be consistent with all future "gray" pages and which ones will not. Preview Image Please create your preview image as one (1) 1024x1024 JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place your submissions within it. You are free to resize or crop your submission to fit this size, but do not add any filters or elements for dramatic effect, such as drop shadows or reflections.
