Challenge Summary

This contest is to design a new top-notch website and blog page for the Long Beach Association, an upscale beach community in Cape Cod, Massachussets. The site will serve active and potential members of the community as a web home to learn more about the association, get the latest news and information, and see and share photographs of this beautiful beach environment. This design will be applied to a wordpress theme so the second page should be a "blog version" of the home page. This contest will be run in the Studio Tournament format. Please read the contest specification and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this contest. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.
Tournament Format This competition will be run as a two-round tournament with a total prize purse of $1250. Round 1 At the end of Round One, the client will choose up to Five (5) review winners; each will win $50 and a Design Review. These winners and any member who had a passing submission in Round One will be eligible to compete in Round 2 for the additional $1000 in prizes. Round 2 Round 2 will start with the announcement of the $50 Round 1 winners and the posting of their design reviews in the contest forum.

Contest Details Your design should reflect the spirit of the area, and invoke thoughts of summertime, cottages and large beach houses, sand dunes, lighthouses, the ocean, and sunsets. We want to see your fresh ideas for a world class web page! The design should be clean, light in color, and allow for beautiful photos of the area to set the tone. It should have a professional high-quality feel to it. The layout is up to you, but here are some links to a couple of free wordpress themes that we like. Submissions will be judged on the designers ability to portray a professional, upscale, sunny feeling community site. Stock Photography Watermarked comp photography from istockphoto.com is allowed in this contest. You must follow these instructions or your submission will fail screening: ****NOTE: You may only use the photos that are linked within the Third Party Content worksheet. No other photos should be used.**** 1) You must include a completed Third Party Content worksheet. It belongs in your Submission folder/zip file -- NOT your Source folder/zip file. 2) Only use photos, and only use them from iStockPhoto. Other iStockPhoto artwork is not allowed. 3) Be sure to keep the watermark intact. If the image is cropped in such a way that the watermark is not visible, please be sure to include the entire image in your source files so we can see that it is a comp image from iStockphoto.com. Home Page Requirements: 1. Header with "Long Beach Association" title. - since there is no logo, the text should be bold, stand out, and reflect the overall design of the page - if you choose, you may use any of the attached photos or approved stock photos as a background image for the header. 2. Navigation - Your design can be a horizontal nav bar or whatever you think is best for your design. It must include: - Home - News - Meetings - Photos - Documents - About Us 3. Text Area 1: "Long Beach Association" - A paragraph of text that will describe the Long Beach Association and the mission statement of the website. 4. Text Area 2: "Latest News" - This area will be a paragraph excerpt of a featured news story from the blog. It should include the title "Latest News" and be enclosed/separated somehow to call it out as featured news. 5. Featured Photos - An area to display featured photographs from the gallery. These photos can be presented as a slideshow, sliding thumbnails, whatever you think is best. Please use any of the approved stock photos for placeholders in this area. 6. "Search" - This site will include search functionality Blog Page Requirements: The blog page should be a 2-column design, and carry over the same look/feel of the home page. It should include: 1. The same or a similar version of the header 2. The same navigation 3. "Search" 4. A right or left hand sidebar, with sample widgets ("Latest Posts", "Calendar", "Photos", etc.) 5. How To Submit

  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.

Your Design Files:

  1. Look for instructions in this challenge regarding what files to provide.
  2. Place your submission files into a "Submission.zip" file.
  3. Place all of your source files into a "Source.zip" file.
  4. Declare your fonts, stock photos, and icons in a "Declaration.txt" file.
  5. Create a JPG preview file.
  6. Place the 4 files you just created into a single zip file. This will be what you upload.
