Challenge Summary

In this contest, we would like to raise costomer's awareness of Best Buy's Ink and Toner department and to emphasize their website/stores as the best destination for Ink and Toner purchases. This contest is the continuation of the "Ink & Toner Idea Wireframe Tournament". Best Buy is looking to the Studio Community to help them design the user interface and workflow of their new Ink & Toner website. The goal of this contest is to produce Storyboards that accurately capture the website requirements and user flow so Best Buy has a clear understanding of their new website's user interface. This contest will be run in the Studio Tournament format. Please read the contest specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this contest. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.
Tournament Format This Studio competition will be run as a two-round tournament with a total prize purse of $2000. Round 1 At the end of Round 1 Best Buy will choose five (5) Round 1 winners, each will win $100 and a Design Review. These winners and any member who had a passing submission in round one will be eligible to compete in Round 2 for the additional $1500 in prizes. Round 2 Round 2 will start with the announcement of the Five (5) $100 Round 1 winners and their design review from Best Buy.

Each line item will show the product, description and details with an "Add to Cart" button. It will also have an input box with default quantity of "0" that the user needs to fill in. Once a quantity is entered the "Add to Cart" button will be active. - Store Location Finder - Ink Estimator (page or window) Ink Estimator will ask the user for inputs as to how many printouts (dropdown) of what size (dropdown) they print during a time period (dropdown). Submitting these answers will give them a recommendation on how much ink to purchase. This will bring them to a Search Results type page populated with the recommended data. Overall Feedback - Shopping tools must be primary and promos secondary - Remove "Deal of the Week" - Rename "7 Reasons..." Promo to "Why Best Buy?" - Ink & Toner finder should be renamed to "Pick your brand to get started"

Best Buy wants to help their customers navigate all of the different Ink & Toners choices they are presented with and provide the best user experience. Based on the Ink & Toner Wireframe contest, Best Buy would like you to design the look and feel (storyboards) of their website. Research modern Web Application Design and Usability - Showing an intuitive interface that is easy-to-use. - Creating a clean, simple and professional design that does not feel "cramped" or "stuffy" or "corporate". REMIX Parameters and Constraints - What is Remix http://remix.bestbuy.com - REMIX Challenge Homepage http://www.remixchallenge.com - Remix Forums at TopCoder Contest Submissions Requirements Tournament Round 1: Follow the wireframes and match the Best Buy look & feel. Main ink page should house all, which any thing on that page should take you to products or finders. Show however many Storyboard jpg's you need to show your User Interface Design and Solution so the client can select your design as a Round 1 winner and provide a design review. Notes.txt = A file that explains your design and solution You must submit all requested deliverables to be considered for prizes - you may submit more pages if necessary to show your design. Stock Photography For this contest you are allowed to use product images from the Best Buy website and only the Best Buy website. Submission & Source Files Preview Image Please create your preview image as one (1) 1024x1024 JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place your submissions within it. You are free to resize or crop your submission to fit this size, but do not add any filters or elements for dramatic effect, such as drop shadows or reflections. Submission File All requested Contest Deliverables in JPG or PNG file format in RGB color mode at 72dpi. plus your notes.txt file Source Files All original source files of the submitted design. Files should be created in Adobe Photoshop, Gimp, Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape and saved as layered PSD files, AI or EPS files. Final Fixes As part of the final fixes phase you may be asked to modify fonts (sizes or colors) or modify overall storyboard colors. Additional Information In this competition, Best Buy employees (other than those in the group sponsoring the competition) may participate, however, they may not use any Best Buy resources when participating in the competition, and also may not have any contact with members of the group sponsoring the competition about the competition, other than through TopCoder and the public forums.

How To Submit

  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.

Your Design Files:

  1. Look for instructions in this challenge regarding what files to provide.
  2. Place your submission files into a "Submission.zip" file.
  3. Place all of your source files into a "Source.zip" file.
  4. Declare your fonts, stock photos, and icons in a "Declaration.txt" file.
  5. Create a JPG preview file.
  6. Place the 4 files you just created into a single zip file. This will be what you upload.
