Challenge Here is your opportunity to help select Best Buy customers realize how much savings they can obtain buy purchasing and utilizing an electric vehicle. Best Buy research has determined that the most compelling reason consumers will purchase these products is to save them money on transportation costs. As a result, Best Buy would like to develop an interactive 'cost savings calculator' as a tangible way to convey the value of saving money and educate the customer as to just how much they might save by using one of these products as an alternative form of commuting. Goals The goal of the calculator is to show how much commuting on a chosen electric vehicle would save the consumer in operating costs as compared to a traditional vehicle. This could be displayed on an annual basis or other appropriate time frames to be suggested by your design. Options that should be considered in this calculation include: - Distance of commute - Price of gas - Current mpg of existing car - 'Wear and tear' on 'replaced' vehicle - Tolls/parking/public transit or other direct costs of commuting - Decreased insurance costs (based on reduced mileage to the 'replaced' vehicle) Overall, this needs to be highly interactive and intuitive and show the users how much of a value they will achieve going electric. Page Requirements - This calculator will reside within the EV section of BestBuy.com http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcmcat177200050009&type=category - Designs will be placed underneath the bike promo and above the three product categories (electric bikes, scooters, accessories). - Width must be 590px exactly. Height must not exceed 300 pixels or less than 100 pixels. Overall Requirements - The user experience should be simple, intuitive and clearly illustrate the singular core concept that the operating expenses of transportation on an electric bike/scooter is far less and will save the owner significant money as compared to commuting or otherwise transporting themselves in a traditional automobile. - A high level, broad indication of how much money is saved is all that is necessary. - Consideration should also be given as to how this might be presented at a kiosk or some other touch screen like monitor within the retail store setting. - Submissions must follow the Best Buy Design Guide Examples The following links are meant only for research purposes.
