Challenge Summary

Best Buy is looking for creative ideas for a "Best Selling" product carousel to be displayed on the Best Buy site. Each section of the website will feature the most popular items in that particular section, with the option to scroll, get details, and link to product information. The goal of this contest is to produce Storyboards that clearly demonstrates all of the functionality of the working carousel. For this contest, you will be designing the "Best Selling Digital Cameras" experience. This contest will be run in the Studio Tournament format. Please read the contest specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this contest. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.
Tournament Format This Studio competition will be run as a two-round tournament with a total prize purse of $2000. Round 1 At the end of Round 1 Best Buy will choose five (5) Round 1 winners, each will win $100 and a Design Review. These winners and any member who had a passing submission in round one will be eligible to compete in Round 2 for the additional $1500 in prizes. Round 2 Round 2 will start with the announcement of the Five (5) $100 Round 1 winners and their design review from Best Buy

Challenge You must design an interactive and intuitive product carousel that Best Buy can use to display their "Best Selling" Products across their site. The design needs to be engaging and attractive, while being easily adaptable to any type of product Best Buy sells. For this contest, you will be designing the Digital Camera experience. Goals The goal of this carousel is to easily display many selected products to consumers in a highly visual and interactive way. Requirements - Follow the Best Buy Design Guide - The carousel structure needs to be adaptable to be used for many different types of products easily - The user experience should be simple, and intuitive - Should give users a way to see the top items at a glance while providing easy ways to get to more information Your carousel must include the following tabs: - Cameras - Bags - Memory - Lenses - Other Accessories Users must be able to scroll horizontally easily to see many items. Hovering over an item will show at minimum: Item name, price, rating and a link to the Details page. Colors and styling must be consistent with Best Buy look and feel. Stock Photography For this contest you are allowed to use product images from the Best Buy website and only the Best Buy website. Submission & Source Files Preview Image Please create your preview image as one (1) 1024x1024 JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place your submissions within it. You are free to resize or crop your submission to fit this size, but do not add any filters or elements for dramatic effect, such as drop shadows or reflections. Submission File All requested Contest Deliverables in JPG or PNG file format in RGB color mode at 72dpi. plus your notes.txt file Source Files All original source files of the submitted design. Files should be created in Adobe Photoshop, Gimp, Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape and saved as layered PSD files, AI or EPS files. Final Fixes As part of the final fixes phase you may be asked to modify fonts (sizes or colors) or modify overall storyboard colors. Additional Information In this competition, Best Buy employees (other than those in the group sponsoring the competition) may participate, however, they may not use any Best Buy resources when participating in the competition, and also may not have any contact with members of the group sponsoring the competition about the competition, other than through TopCoder and the public forums.

  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.

Your Design Files:

  1. Look for instructions in this challenge regarding what files to provide.
  2. Place your submission files into a "Submission.zip" file.
  3. Place all of your source files into a "Source.zip" file.
  4. Declare your fonts, stock photos, and icons in a "Declaration.txt" file.
  5. Create a JPG preview file.
  6. Place the 4 files you just created into a single zip file. This will be what you upload.
