Challenge Summary

Ferguson has asked the Studio/TopCoder Community to help them plan, design and build their new website the past few weeks. The initial stages were to bring awareness of the Ferguson brand and Showrooms to consumers. Now we are thinking of new and additional features for the site and helping consumers find Ferguson products. The next step is to design the eCommerce area of the website. The goal of this contest is to produce Storyboards that accurately capture the website requirements and user flow so Ferguson has a clear understanding of their new website's user interface. This contest will be run in the Studio Tournament format. Please read the contest specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this contest. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.
Tournament Format This Studio competition will be run as a two-round tournament with a total prize purse of $2000. Round 1 At the end of Round 1, Ferguson will choose five (5) Round 1 winners, each will win $50 and a Design Review. These winners and any member who had a passing submission in round one will be eligible to compete in Round 2 for the additional $1750 in prizes. Round 2 Round 2 will start with the announcement of the Five (5) $50 Round 1 winners and their design review from Ferguson. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ We are now in Round 2 Congratulations Round 1 Winners on your $50 Prizes: 21670 - donot6 21669 - YeGGo 21667 - maritza 21666 - djackmania 21663 - daddum Overall Feedback - Welcome back everyone - sorry for the delay - Okay - please do not try and redesign the site! - we just need to create a simple/clean/eCommerce site - Focus on the checkout process and features - Ferguson is experienced in product search - You can now go to http://ferguson.com/FergusonSearch/RecordList.action and see how the product search works and what we will be building the eCommerce into. We will be modifying this structure - but keeping the same Search and features. We just need help/insight and design expertise into the Cart experience and the User Profile features/functions. - Since the wireframes are not complete we are asking you to think/design/research features that you think are useful and necessary for a great shopping experience - remember to keep things simple and clean. - The client it really looking for "What is the User flow?, How does a User buy a product and what do they see? How do they continue shopping? How do they ship a product or save their Order for later? How do they pay? - these are the things to be thinking about when you are designing and looking at our final screens. - We are removing the mini-cart feature - I am attaching the eCommerce Conceptualization Document (it should help explain some features) - Good luck! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Contest Details 1) Think "eCommerce"! - Do your research and look at what is out on the web - Who are the industry leaders? what are they doing with their shopping experience that just "works" - What features do you like at your favorite online store? easy shipping? quick product search and selection? Cool "My Profile" features? - What annoys you about the online experience? What should we not be doing? - What are the best practices in eCommerece? (What to do and what not to do?) - Research who has the most effective eCommerce design (and why is it considered effective?) - Research eCommerce and usability There is obviously a wealth of information on the internet about eCommerce. The client would like your input and reasoning behind your design decisions and what you think will help provide the best user experience. 2) Design! - Design the eCommerce aspect of the Ferguson site. - How many steps/pages from Product Search to Product Purchase? Keep the user experience simple. - Focus on the checkout process and features - Ferguson is experienced in product search - Ability to purchase products either logged in or not - Product Search - Product Search Results - Product Detail - Shopping Cart - My Favorites - Shipping - Payment method - Order Review - Print Order - Anything else you find important! (and in the provided wireframes) NOTE: The provided wireframes are NOT COMPLETE so we are open to additional suggestions within your design and user flow. We will be updating the wireframes in parallel with this contest - all ideas are welcome! - expand on the wireframes - Keep things simple and user friendly! The most important aspect of eCommerce is providing a very easy to understand user experience. The user should not have to think about what to click, where to go or how to find information. They should be focused on the products displayed and not the interactions themseleves.
