Challenge Summary

Univision, the premier Spanish-language media company in the United States, would like to reorganize the structure of their navigation in parts of the Univision.com website. They are looking to the community to help them plan out and wireframe their ideas for a better overall user experience. The goal of this contest is to produce wireframes that accurately capture the navigation requirements and information flow so the user can easily go move to any section of the site, know where they have been and where they can go next. This contest will be run in the Studio Tournament format. Please read the contest specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this contest. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.
Tournament Format This Studio competition will be run as a two-round tournament with a total prize purse of $1250. Round 1 At the end of Round One, Univision will choose five (5) review winners; each will win $50 and a Wireframe Submission Review. These winners and any member who had a passing submission in Round One will be eligible to compete in Round 2 for the additional $1250 in prizes. Round 2 Round 2 will start with the announcement of the five (5) $50 Round 1 winners and the posting of their wireframe reviews in the contest forum.
We are now in Round 2. Congratulations Round 1 Winners on your $50 Prizes: 22540 - selvia_ettine 22584 - systic 22592 - JGeeks 22595 - JGeeks 22600 - picachui Overall Feedback Please see the general feedback and all of the specific feedback for the five (5) Round 1 winners in the contest forums. Good luck!
Goal The goal of this contest is to create a new navigational structure for the Univision.com website. Because there are so many sections and sub-sections of the site, the current navigational structure does not provide the best user experience. Univision would like you to reorganize the navigation so it is easy for the user, has strong usability and good content organization. The site navigation may contain: - Up to 12 categories - Up to 20 sub-categories per category - Up to 10 topics per sub-category For this contest, you will be wireframing four (4) individual navigation flows. You are not restricted to any standard navigation layout, such as top or left placement. However, we are looking for a strong, simple user experience and best practices in navigation. You are free to use hovers, drop-downs, flyouts or any other technique that you feel accomplishes this task. Be innovative and creative. Requirements - Create a wireframe showing your solution for the site navigation - You must follow the provided spreadsheet for the organization of the categories, sub-categories and topics. - The wireframe must also contain breadcrumbs. How they are implemented is up to you. - You DO NOT need to wireframe the content areas or any other area of the web page for this contest. We are only looking for your solution of the navigation and breadcrumbs. - Use placeholders for the header, footer, content areas and any other page elements not related to the navigation or breadcrumbs. Considerations - Keep in mind that this is a content-heavy site, similar to many news and entertainment web sites. The navigation and breadcrumbs you create should be organized with this consideration. - You are encouraged to review the Univision.com website to get familiar with the content and how the pages are organized. - You DO NOT have to make your navigation and breadcrumbs consistent with the current Univision.com website. We are looking for a new solution to the navigation and not more of the same. - Pay attention to how the navigation flow works with only a few sub-categories compared to a long list of sub-categories and topics. Depending on the solution, a navigation structure may work well for one situation and not the other. Target Audience - Univision.com new and experienced users Wireframe Resources - Wireframes on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_site_wireframe - Wireframe software option: www.axure.com - Example Wireframe: http://www.gdoss.com/web_info/web-site-wireframe.php Wireframe Requirements Wireframes can be built in HTML, Axure (listed above), MS Visio or OmniGraffle. The resulting files are not critical in this contest. The most important point is that all the navigation is included and the pages are linked together to show user flow. Wireframe Considerations The most important aspect of this navigation is providing a very logical and ordered user experience. The user should not have to think about how to find information. They should be focused on the content and how to easily access the information they need. Pages must be linked together as a clickable resource Judging Criteria Your submission will be judged on the following criteria: - How well your wireframes provide a consistent user flow - How well the navigation and breadcrumbs are presented and organized on the page - How easy the navigation is to understand and use - How well you implement the required data and any suggestions, interactions and user flow you recommend (provide any notes or comments for the client) Contest Submissions Requirements For the contest deliverables, you will need to show how a user gets to a certain areas of the site map through your navigation. Each of the four (4) navigation flows MUST include at least two (2) screens that demonstrates the flow. You may include additional screens and/or text descriptions if it would help explain your navigation solution. Round One - Flow #1: Show how the user goes to and selects Topic 7 under Category 6 in Sub-Category 4. In the spreadsheet, it is shown with the blue border. - Flow #2: Show how the user goes to and selects Sub-Category 4 under Category 9. In the spreadsheet, it is shown with the red border. Round Two - Flow #1: Show how the user goes to and selects Topic 7 under Category 6 in Sub-Category 4. In the spreadsheet, it is shown with the blue border. (same flow as Round 1) - Flow #2: Show how the user goes to and selects Sub-Category 4 under Category 9. In the spreadsheet, it is shown with the red border. (same flow as Round 1) - Flow #3: Show how the user goes to and selects Topic 1 under Sub-Category 3 under Category 3. In the spreadsheet, it is shown with the green border. - Flow #4: Show how the user goes to and selects Sub-Category 2 under Category 12. In the spreadsheet, it is shown with the orange border. NOTE: The client may add additional requirements based on the results of Round 1 and decisions made between now and the start of Round 2. You must submit all requested deliverables to be considered for prizes - you may submit more if necessary to explain your solution.
