Challenge Summary

The goal of this contest is to design a web based order management system that allows laboratory scientists to create orders and manage resources. These scientists need to accurately enter and view order information. Scientists should be able to efficiently process orders through workflow steps and have clear indication of the order status. The goal of this contest is to produce storyboards that accurately capture the information flow of the wireframes. The storyboards should provide an engaging, easy to use look and feel with an intuitive interface. NOTE: This contest will be run as a private competition. This means all documentation and forum discussion will be private and only available to members who have completed a CCA specific to this project. The public forum for this contest has more information about the CCA Process and how to get approved to access to the documentation.

Round 1

At the end of Round 1 the client will choose five (5) Round 1 winners, each will win $100 and a Design Review. These winners and any member who had a passing submission in round one will be eligible to compete in Round 2 for the additional $1,250 in prizes.

Round 2

Round 2 will start with the announcement of the five (5) $100 Round 1 winners and their design review.
Goals The first goal of this contest is to design a look and feel that can be used for the entire Arion application. To meet this goal, storyboards for several main areas of the application should be created, including: application administration, SUP page, and the ordering pages. The second goal of this contest is to design the pages related to ordering. You should implement storyboards for as many pages of the ordering wireframes as you need to clearly show the design so that it can be implemented in a HTML prototype. Considerations Usability You should feel free to reorganize content within pages and change the wording on buttons or in order to make the site easier to understand. You are encouraged to work on the usability of the following items in the wireframes: - Ordering Search - View Order List - Visibility of ordering functions Implementation This application will be developed into JSPs using Struts. The table, menus and other controls you design should take this into account in terms of any constraints these technologies might have on the functionality proposed. Wireframe Consolidation There are three input files provided that you should use to design your pages: - admin_page.JPG This is a screen shot of a functional prototype for an admin page of the application. You should redesign this page so that it matches your design for the other pages related to ordering. - SUP_wireframes.zip An HTML click through of the SUP portion of the application. You should design one (1) page from this wireframes set. The design should match your design for the other pages related to ordering. - ordering_wireframes.zip An HTML click-through of the ordering portion of the application. This should be the main focus of your storyboards. As noted in the Goals section, you should provide as many storyboards as you need to clearly show your design. Branding Your font and color choices are open to your design discretion. Below is a color palette and font. You should use these colors as you see fit. Currently used in the admin screens: Colors: Active blue: #043F68 Inactive blue: #379ADF Table Specific Colors: Table Header: #87AFC7 Even Row: #FFFFFF Odd Row: #CCCCCC You must leave room for a logo in the header of your design as well as incorporating an area for the footer. Target Audience Laboratory doctors and scientists running experiments. These users will be busy and need to quickly and accurately use the application without having to search though a page for key information. This is an internal tool and does not need to be flashy or overly styled in any way. Users will expect, simple, easy to use functionality. Judging Criteria Your submission will be judged on the following criteria: - How well you have presented all the screens in a user-friendly manner - How polished and professional your have designed the major sections of the application - How well you have combined the wireframes and screen shots Contest Deliverables Round 1 The following screens should have storyboards: - Ordering screens (as many as needed) - Admin screen - SUP wireframe screen You may also supply an optional notes file that explains your designs and intentions. Round 2 Finished and completed design solution. The client may add additional requirements based on Round 1 results and decisions made between now and the start of Round 2. Submission & Source Files Preview Image Please create your preview image as one (1) 1024x1024 JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place your submissions within it.
