Challenge Summary

Welcome to the I Make Medicines Virtual Wall Design Contest. The goal of this contest is to create Storyboards for a "Virtual Wall" of statements created by colleagues of a pharmaceutical research and development company. What is the I Make Medicines Virtual Wall?
  • Our company's research and development recently initiated a campaign to help unify colleagues in the single goal of "making medicines". As part of this campaign, colleagues across the various R&D sites were recently invited to write brief statements on a large poster, articulating how they individually contribute to "making medicines" and applying a thumb print in red next to their statement. (See screenshot in the attached documents.)
  • Our company would now like to create a "virtual" environment that will:
  • Unify colleagues under a single R&D "banner" by allowing colleagues to state and share on-line how they contribute to making medicines
  • Enable colleagues to engage in discussions regarding their contributions to making medicines
  • Allow colleague statements to link videos and articles relating to the "I Make Medicines" campaign
This contest is to come up with the design for the virtual wall. NOTE: This contest will be run as a private competition. This means all documentation and forum discussion will be private and only available to members who have completed a CCA specific to this project. The public forum for this contest has more information about the CCA Process and how to get approved to access to the documentation.

Round 2

Round 2 will start with the announcement of the five (5) $100 Round 1 winners and their wireframe review from the client.
Contest Details Complete designs should contain at a minimum the following screens. Additional details are provided in the supporting documentation. Virtual Wall Screen The main screen(s) of this design will be the Virtual Wall. The Virtual Wall will be part of the R&D webpage where articles and other content/links are commonly displayed. The Virtual Wall feature will be a prominent (should take up a large part of the page) and graphically rich component on the page. It needs to display the latest user statements in a way that is both easily navigable and "draws the user in", thus encouraging them to explore other colleagues contributions (statements and related info) as well as encourage them to participate by sharing their own statement. Don't limit your design to just these things, but here are a few thoughts to get the creative juices going. Virtual wall should enable user to:
  • Zoom in and out
  • Scroll/drag/move across the virtual wall easily
  • Hover over a user statement to quickly get additional context/info
  • Click on the statement to view the additional info the user entered with their statement, or jump to the URL specified in the 'Article Link' field if it is a 'Super Statement'
The Virtual Wall should has several items of data available to use for interactivity/display. Here is an overview of the data; details on each item are in the accompanying documentation:
  • Created By - Auto field ? person that created record
  • Statement - Allows user to states how they make medicines
  • Skills - User states what skills they use/have that enables them to make medicines
  • Examples - Examples of how they have helped make medicines
  • Learn More - Allows user to state what they?d like to learn more about in terms of making medicines
  • Categories - User selects up to 10 categories that they feel are relevant to their statement (user selects one or more checkboxes)
  • Attachments - Allows user to upload one or more attachments
  • Article Link - Allows Admin to define a URL to an article in a separate portal
  • Status - Defines whether item appears in Virtual Wall. Only if status is "Approved" does item appear in Virtual Wall
  • Super Statement? - Allows Admin to define user statement as a "Super Statement". A Super Statement means that statement on Virtual Wall should be treated differently both visually and in behavior ? user clicks on super statement and is linked to the Article defined by the Article Link field
  • Promote? - This defines whether an article should appear in the rotating promotional area. Status flag needs to be set to "Approved" for item to appear in the promotional rotator
Other elements on the screen to include are:
  • A button (just a graphic that can have a URL behind it is fine) that links the user to the statement entry form
  • A button (just a graphic that can have a URL behind it is fine) that links the user to the list of all user statements that have been approved
  • A button (just a graphic that can have a URL behind it is fine) that links the user to our social networking site
Promotional Rotator This feature on the page will highlight a small number of specific user statements. The Promotional Rotator feature needs to grab user's attention - we've traditionally done this by rotating between graphics or statement (or both) every 3 or so seconds (see screen shot in accompanying documents), but are very much open to ideas around other novel ways of grabbing the users attention.
