Challenge Summary

Welcome to the Vesta Cart and Checkout Design Contest. The goal of this contest is to produce Storyboards that design and improve the Vesta shopping cart checkout process. At the end of this contest the Client is looking to have a clear understanding of their customer's checkout user experience.

Round 1

At the end of Round 1, the Client will choose five (5) Round 1 winners, each will win $100 and a Design Review. These winners and any member who had a passing submission in round one will be eligible to compete in Round 2 for the additional $1800 in prizes.

Round 2

Round 2 will start with the announcement of the Five (5) $100 Round 1 winners and their design review from the Client.
Contest Details For this contest we have existing designs that were are going to provide as resources. We are not looking for you to redesign the Vesta site but to combine/merge the provided ideas into a cohesive Vesta online shopping and checkout experience. (Pull all the resources together and brand it properly) Use the provided resources as wireframes and content references. Refer to the existing Vesta site for design direction and graphic style. DO NOT REDESIGN THE SITE. This is contest is an extension/build out of the current Vesta user experience. Pay attention to the details! Areas that need to be designed - Product Search Results - Shopping Cart - Check Out Process Tasks - Storyboard the Vesta cart checkout process. - Start us at a Search Result page and walk us through the steps to complete the purchase(s). - Consider paths that a registered customer would take vs a guest customer, entering shipping and billing addresses, and the final "Thank you" page. - We are looking for an exceptional and easy customer experience. Product Search Results We are looking for the user experience starting from this page Vesta Site (notice projects can be displayed in "Tile" or "List" format) - Since we are converting to an online shopping experience you will need to add some shopping features to the search results. - Show how a user would add products to their cart - Reference this page for wireframe/content ideas Search Results Shopping Cart - Design how the shopping cart looks and works - Reference this page for wireframe/content ideas Cart Sample Check Out Process - We are going to use the same steps and process referenced here Check Out Process - Create these screens but in the look and feel of the Vesta site. (What to do and what not to do?) - Research who has the most effective eCommerce design (and why is it considered effective?) - Research eCommerce and usability Design - Keep the customer experience simple - Registered Customer vs Guest Customer - Steps from Full Cart to Thank you page - Think about the customer The most important aspect of eCommerce is providing a very easy to understand user experience. The user should not have to think about what to click, where to go or how to find information. They should be focused on the products displayed and not the interactions themselves Target User - Professionals and Homeowners looking to purchase Vesta products online Judging Criteria - How well you design and plan out the Shopping process - Cleanliness of your graphics and design - User Experience Stock Photography Watermarked comp photography from istockphoto.com is allowed in this contest. You must follow these instructions or your submission will fail screening: 1) You must include a completed Third Party Content worksheet. It belongs in your Submission folder/zip file -- NOT your Source folder/zip file. 2) Only use photos, and only use them from iStockPhoto. Other iStockPhoto artwork is not allowed. 3) Be sure to keep the watermark intact. If the image is cropped in such a way that the watermark is not visible, please be sure to include the entire image in your source files so we can see that it is a comp image from iStockphoto.com. Contest Deliverables Round One Vesta-screen(s) = Your submitted design solution (showing the complete shopping process) for a design review. Notes.jpg = A file that explains your design and solution NOTE: Not all screens need to be finalized - but you MUST include all your screens/steps. Please NUMBER your files in the order they should be viewed. Round Two Vesta-screen(s) = Final Design solution (showing the complete shopping process) Notes.jpg = A file that explains your design and solution NOTE: Please NUMBER your files in the order they should be viewed.You must submit all screens within your shopping process to be considered for prizes Submission & Source Files Preview Image Please create your preview image as one (1) 1024x1024px JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place a screenshot of your submission within it. You are free to resize or crop your submission to fit this size, but do not add any filters or elements for dramatic effect, such as drop shadows or reflections. Submission File All Requested Contest Submission Requirements stated above. Source Files All original source files of the submitted design. Files should be created in Adobe Photoshop, Gimp, Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape and saved as layered PSD files, AI or EPS files. . Final Fixes As part of the final fixes phase you may be asked to modify fonts (sizes or colors) or modify overall storyboard colors.

Please read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.

Stock Photography

Stock photography is not allowed in this challenge. All submitted elements must be designed solely by you. See this page for more details.

How To Submit

  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.

Submission format

Your Design Files:

  1. Look for instructions in this challenge regarding what files to provide.
  2. Place your submission files into a "Submission.zip" file.
  3. Place all of your source files into a "Source.zip" file.
  4. Declare your fonts, stock photos, and icons in a "Declaration.txt" file.
  5. Create a JPG preview file.
  6. Place the 4 files you just created into a single zip file. This will be what you upload.

Fonts, Stock Photos, and Icons:

All fonts, stock photos, and icons within your design must be declared when you submit. DO NOT include any 3rd party files in your submission or source files. Read about the policy.
