Challenge Summary

Welcome to the Vesta Registration Design Contest. The goal of this contest is to produce Storyboards that design and capture the new Registration click path for the Vesta website. At the end of this contest the Client is looking to have a set of clean, intuitive, and easy-to-use designs that meets the requirements described within the Contest Details.

Round 1

At the end of Round 1, the Client will choose five (5) Round 1 winners, each will win $50 and a Design Review. These winners and any member who had a passing submission in Round 1 will be eligible to compete in Round 2 for the additional $1250 in prizes.

Round 2

Round 2 will start with the announcement of the Five (5) $50 Round 1 winners and their design review from the Client.
Contest Details Vesta is always looking to give their customers a better user experience by updating and enhancing the user experience (UX) of their existing websites and web applications. Vesta currently does NOT have a registration piece on their website and are looking to add this functionality in the future. For this contest you will be working out the User Registration click-path and helping to design what the user will see when registering on the Vesta website. Pay careful attention the the User Experience and usability of your design. DO NOT design a new website. Stay consistent with the provided website design and references. Registration Criteria: - Simple to use - Initial site Registration contained to 1 page - After a User registers they can setup additional My Account/Profile information Registration Is this a normal web page or a modal window? - Email field - Verify Email field - Password field - Zip Code field - Checkbox: Professional or Homeowner - Checkbox: I would like to receive offers and sale alerts from Vesta - Create My Profile Button - Terms of Use Link - Privacy Policy Link - "Already have an account?" "sign in here" link My Account/Profile After a user registers or logs in they have the ability to manage their profile. Show how the user would work/interact these Profile items. How does this look? What is the navigation? Orders - Track Open Orders - Order History - Shipping & Returns Payment - Manage Payment Options - Add a Credit Card Account Settings - Retail customer: Change Name, email, Address or Password - Business customer: Change Name, email, Address or Password --- Customer type - plumbing, HVAC, Plumbing & HVAC, Mechanical, Residential builder, non-residential builder, utility contractor, remodeler, other (specify) - Forgot your password or username? - Shipping Address - Add a new shipping Address - Email Preferences and Notifications - Product Alerts Personalization - Users Community Profile - Product Reviews Written by You - User's Wish List - Wedding Registry - Turn on/off your Browsing History Research - Do your research - look at other registration forms and web best practices - Who are the industry leaders? what are they doing with their registration experience that just "works" - What features do you like at your favorite online store? easy shipping? Cool "My Profile" features? - What annoys you about the online experience? What should we not be doing? - Research registration forms and usability Target User - Homeowners - Professionals (HVAC, Waterworks, Commercial, Residential, Industry & Specialty) - Assume Users know how to use the Application but are not necessarily web savvy. Judging Criteria - How well you design the new Vesta Registration - Cleanliness of your graphics and design - User Experience Reference Files Homepage Link Homeowner Link Professional Link Remodelers Link Source Files - You are allowed to take screen-shots of the existing Vesta (client) site. Design your Registrations to work within the current site design. Stock Photography Watermarked comp photography from istockphoto.com is allowed in this contest. You must follow these instructions or your submission will fail screening: 1) You must include a completed Third Party Content worksheet. It belongs in your Submission folder/zip file -- NOT your Source folder/zip file. 2) Only use photos, and only use them from iStockPhoto. Other iStockPhoto artwork is not allowed. 3) Be sure to keep the watermark intact. If the image is cropped in such a way that the watermark is not visible, please be sure to include the entire image in your source files so we can see that it is a comp image from iStockphoto.com. Contest Deliverables Round One Registration-Screen(s) = Your submitted design solution for a review Please provide all screens/steps to show how your Registration would work. Notes.jpg = A file that explains your design and solution Round Two Registration-Screen(s) = Final Design Please provide all screens/steps to show how your Registration would work. Notes.jpg = A file that explains your design and solution Submission & Source Files Preview Image Please create your preview image as one (1) 1024x1024 JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place a screenshot of your submission within it. You are free to resize or crop your submission to fit this size, but do not add any filters or elements for dramatic effect, such as drop shadows or reflections. Submission File All Requested Contest Submission Requirements stated above. Source Files All original source files of the submitted design. Files should be created in Adobe Photoshop, Gimp, Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape and saved as layered PSD files, AI or EPS files. . Final Fixes As part of the final fixes phase you may be asked to modify fonts (sizes or colors) or modify overall storyboard colors.

Stock Photography

Stock photography is not allowed in this challenge. All submitted elements must be designed solely by you. See this page for more details.

How To Submit

  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.

Submission format

Your Design Files:

  1. Look for instructions in this challenge regarding what files to provide.
  2. Place your submission files into a "Submission.zip" file.
  3. Place all of your source files into a "Source.zip" file.
  4. Declare your fonts, stock photos, and icons in a "Declaration.txt" file.
  5. Create a JPG preview file.
  6. Place the 4 files you just created into a single zip file. This will be what you upload.

Fonts, Stock Photos, and Icons:

All fonts, stock photos, and icons within your design must be declared when you submit. DO NOT include any 3rd party files in your submission or source files. Read about the policy.
