Challenge Summary

Ideas. Experimentation. Innovation. This is the foundation of PayPal Labs. PayPal Labs is a site for curious minds to go to and see the latest innovations cooked up by PayPal and its developer community. For this contest, you will be redesigning the existing PayPal Labs site to showcase all of the great ideas that PayPal has in an exciting and engaging that is as engaging as the ides it presents.

Round 1

At the end of Round 1, we will choose five (5) Round 1 winners, each will win $100 and a Design Review. These winners and any member who had a passing submission in round one will be eligible to compete in Round 2 for the additional $1500 in prizes.

Round 2

Round 2 will start with the announcement of the five (5) $100 Round 1 winners and their design review.
Goal We need a site that will illustrate our geeky experiments and will be interesting for both PayPal users and developers to look at. It needs to be crisp and clean, but must exemplify our creativity, innovation and convey some sort of a "techy" lab feel. The homepage should be very easy to navigate and should have pictures and blurbs that are pleasing to the eye and entice people to click on them. Logos The existing PayPal Labs logo has been included. Requirements The requirements are going to be split up into two dimensions we want covered on the page: Dynamic and Static. DYNAMIC SIDE For the Dynamic side, we want the following categories represented with the details listed below. This is NOT the site navigation (static section) this is what will be shown on the home page. New and Fresh Featured experiments from PayPal Labs Events Any events that are related to PayPal including conferences, meetups, and/or meeting links sponsored by PayPal/PayPal X or related to payments industry Social Activity - Connect with Facebook to post comments/feedback, possibly displaying the person's profile pic/link to profile - Recent fans / Followers on Twitter -Share with others link What's Cool - What's cool from the Labs development team (plus link to a details page for each app) - What's cool from PayPal's developer community (plus a link to a details page for each app) - Ratings on the what's cool items - Maybe an advice column? (e.g., Dear Dr. Payments, I use PayPal, but my wife uses Google Checkout. Should we get a divorce?) - Highlights for rock star developers (both internal to PayPal and from our external developer community) Idea Submission and Rating - Show ideas and a system to rate/score them Feeds from X.com and PayPal.com - Cross promotion of Labs on X and Vice versa STATIC SIDE Then, for the static portion needed for the site, we should have tabs or segments of some kind (be creative). The static section will include the following sections: About - What is Labs and what we do - Showcase applications / Gallery Publications/Papers - Articles /white-papers on payments/micropayments/digital goods and related domains - Books authored by employees Resources/Links - Foreign exchange calculators, fee calculators - Developer guides - Developer Community on X - Code / Plugins Contact/Team - Leadership team pictures and short story - Twitter, FB and other ways to connect - Labs feedback/support email **** Design Considerations Please be creative and show us your best stuff. It should have a similar white and blue theme and include the PayPal Labs logo. Do something different. Have a great idea outside of what we?ve suggested here? SHOW US. We want to see anything you can come up with. Don?t be afraid to push the ideas of what is accepted and standard. What others are doing Similar sites to ours are: Yahoo Labs and Google Labs. These are listed as reference/information only, not as design reference. you may also, of course, reference our current site for bopy/details. Stock Photography Watermarked comp photography from istockphoto.com is allowed in this contest. You must follow these instructions or your submission will fail screening: 1) You must include a completed Third Party Content worksheet. It belongs in your Submission folder/zip file -- NOT your Source folder/zip file. 2) Only use photos, and only use them from iStockPhoto. Other iStockPhoto artwork is not allowed. 3) Be sure to keep the watermark intact. If the image is cropped in such a way that the watermark is not visible, please be sure to include the entire image in your source files so we can see that it is a comp image from iStockphoto.com. Target Audience Our target audience is PayPal users (both merchants and buyers), Developers, job seekers, and curious people browsing innovative things on the internet. Keep in mind that our target audience includes people from all over the world. Judging Criteria Your submission will be judged on the following: Concept/Creativity: Is the design unique?
