Challenge Summary
Recently, Alcatel-Lucent ran an iPad App Challenge to create a number of iPad Application which utilize the Alcatel-Lucent Location Based Services (LBS) APIs in innovative ways. Peer Peer is one of the winning applications that came from this challenge. It is a fun mashup that displays geocoded Flickr photos that are close to your friends. LBS + Flickr = sweet visualization to tap into the national zeitgeist. This app also begs the question, "What if you happened to peer on a peer on a pier?"
Now, Alcatel-Lucent is running a series of competitions to update these applications with additional features. This competition is to create a storyboard detailing the look and feel of these updates so that they can be implemented in future development competitions.
Round 1
At the end of Round 1, we will choose three (3) Round 1 winners, each will win $50 and a Design Review. These winners and any member who had a passing submission in round one will be eligible to compete in Round 2 for the additional $750 in prizes.
Round 2
Round 2 will start with the announcement of the Five (3) $50 Round 1 winners and their design review.
Primary Goals
1) Design a new application icon for running the application on the iPad home page.
2) Currently the application retrieves one Flickr photo for each subscriber location. The new version will allow multiple photos to be returned for one location, so when viewing the photos the user will scroll through them by flicking the image on the screen. The number of photos at that location should be represented by dots at the bottom of the photo and should update when the user scrolls through the photos to indicate which photo in the series is being viewed.
3) Add a preferences overlay, launched from the main screen, which allows the user to modify the map type (satelitte, street, hybrid) and number of images to return for each subscriber location (1-10).
Additional Features and Changes:
You are encouraged to suggest additional features or changes to the application, functional or visual to make it even better!
Size:
The viewable area of the iPad is 1024x768.
Judging Criteria:
Your submission will be judged on the following criteria:
- How well your storyboards meet the criteria listed in the goals above
- How well your storyboards match and improve upon the style of the application
- How desirable are any additional features or changes depicted in your storyboards (beyond what is already described in the goals above)
Final Fixes
As part of the final fixes phase you may be asked to make small modifications to you submission.
