Challenge Summary

PayPal is a premier online payment service on the web. PayPal has opened its platform for developers to build applications using the PayPal APIs. The simple storefront application is being built by PayPal as a high quality sample application for its developer community. The simple storefront application is a web application that allows merchants with a limited number of items to generate an iPhone or Android mobile application to sell those items. The generated mobile applications will use the PayPal library for processing payments. The generator application will be very easy to use and the merchants will be able to generate their applications with very little technical knowledge. The colors of the UI elements in the app are customizable by the merchant. They can choose to make the background yellow, the complimentary color red, etc. However, to make it easier for these merchants to select "attractive" color combinations, the application comes with some themes the user can select. The purpose of this contest is for you to help design these color themes. What color combinations do you think are the best? We know designers like you have the best eye for this and we want your help!
Primary Goal This contest will generate the template color combinations for the Mobile storefront apps and the preview images associated with them. Your submissions must include three (3) screens - the main page, items listing, and cart application screens with the configured theme settings. Details What your submission should include for each of the three screens is (1) updated image with your chosen colors applied and (2) a text/other doc which contains the specific RBG values for each of your settings. The following inputs are available for download in this contest:
  • storyboard images (for reference only)
  • preview images of the existing application (used as basis for customization)
The Storefront theme that you will be customizing consists of the following:
  • main background color
  • complementary color
  • text color
  • background image
It also contains settings for the:
  • view details button color (same as complementary color but can be configured to a different value)
  • add to cart button color (a shade of green but can be different)
  • remove from cart button color (a shade of red but can be different)
  • preview image (a small image of the storefront application showing the main widgets and their look with the current settings. The preview image can be seen in "10063_TC_PayPal_SimpleStorefront_2a_Generator_2a.jpg" and contains a magnifying glass icon, shopping cart icon, product title and price.
Your Submission Your submissions are only being used for the client evaluation, so the images do not have to be created in layers or in vector format. The source files do not matter -- you can submit PSD, JPG, PDF, etc as your source but your Submission folder must show: -- three (3) JPG screens and -- a text document with the RGB values. Judging Criteria: The client will chose the desired settings combinations based on how well the colors complement each other and how well the design is received.

Please read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.
