Challenge Summary
The IBM Development Server Team (DST) provides operational support and infrastructure to IBM practitioners that support both IBM internal and commercial accounts. DST infrastructure and support offerings are innovative in that they provide low cost, quick-turnaround, flexible HW/SW infrastructure that far surpasses any other non-production hosting environment in IBM. DST offerings are reserved to any IBM practitioner or project that requires a development, test or other non-production environment.
DST has a variety of traditional and non-traditional offerings that require the DST support personnel to support an infrastructure that spans the globe. As time has passed, the number of servers and a richer set of offerings have grown exponentially and the need for set of more sophisticated tools to monitor infrastructure capacity has become a high priority. The primary reasons to gather data and report on infrastructure are to:
- Empower the DST Operational Support team with relevant capacity information to ensure that DST infrastructure is meeting HW and network resource demand
- Provide insight into need for future Capital Requests and when they might be needed
All capacity-related requirements for DST can be divided into two categories
- Capacity Dashboard (out of scope),
- Capacity Support Tool.
Where a "Capacity Dashboard" can provide insight to business decisions and direction of DST and a "Capacity Support Tool" can empower DST support personnel to monitor and be proactive with DST support services. The Capacity Dashboard requirements fit into a larger strategy (with lower priority) in which a dashboard can support overall business direction and decisions. The Capacity Support Tool will eventually provide the data points necessary to aggregate at a dashboard level.
Please note, the focus of this system architecture will be the Capacity Support Tool only.

Round 2 will start with the announcement of the three (3) $100 Round 1 winners and their design review.
This wireframe competition is responsible for generating the HTML wireframes for given SDS. The following GUI functionality will be covered:
- GUI for navigating and searching for capacity reports.
- GUI for getting capacity reports for all 6 domains.
- GUI for manually entering raw capacity data and importing flat files with raw capacity data to DST Capacity Tools.
