Challenge Summary
Welcome to “NASA Tournament Lab ECG Project - Android Storyboard” Contest. The purpose of this contest is to create a storyboard for an ECG data file reader and playback application. The application is expected to eventually handle up to 12 data leads read from a binary file or other input device. However, in this contest you only need to provide screens for one group of leads consisting of 3 data leads. The application allows the user to record segments of any playback to new files, to begin playback at arbitrary timeline points, etc. Later enhancements of the application may integrate it with live sensors and allow the provider to enter patient information. The target device for this application will be a smartphone based on Android Operating System.
In case if you didn’t know what ECG is, you can see the explanation from these link :

2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrocardiography
At the end of this contest, the client is looking for a clean, fresh and user friendly storyboard that is user friendly and compatible with most screen resolutions supported by android smartphone devices.
Round 1
For round one you are expected to submit your solution for landscape view on selected android smartphone resolutions. 9 pages for resolution 600x1024px and 2 pages for each less resolution (320x480px and 480x800px)
Round 2
For round two, you are expected to submit your solution for both landscape and portrait view on selected android smartphone resolution. 18 pages for resolution 600x1024px and 4 pages for each less resolution (320x480px and 480x800px)
Contest Requirements :
You need to create storyboard that are compatible with selected android smartphone resolutions, both for landscape (horizontal) and portrait (vertical) orientation. More detailed about Android smartphone screen resolution can be found here :
http://developer.android.com/guide/practices/screens_support.html
The main resolution for this application will be 600x1024px resolution, however, we would like to see how the application will appear on less resolution (320x480px and 480x800px), so you need to provide alternative screen for these resolution.
We don’t have any special color schemes or logo for this contest, but we provide you with Topcoder Droid Kit as reference for your design, feel free to use it, but if it does not fit with your design then please feel free to use your imagination and creativity to create the storyboard.
Please note that the shape and “jaggedness” of the waveforms (the lead lines) have meaning to doctors. Take care that the line width you use is appropriate for the target screen resolution to preserve the shape of the waveform. If you have doubts ask questions in the forums. The client will provide specific feedback after the milestone about waveform shape.
Contest Objectives :
1. Design an Android smartphone storyboard designs an application that can find, load and display a pre-recorded ECG 12-lead data session in binary format, 5 mins in length. For this contest , you don’t need to create screens that can handle all 12 data lead, you just need to provide a group Lead view, which should show one Lead Group with 3 Leads inside it. Competitors should focus on the appearance of the Grid and Lead Waveforms , and the overall screen design.
2. Allow the entire session to be played back on the phone.
3. Allow the user to view a snapshot in time or begin playback at any time offset within the data file, starting at 0.
4. Optimize screen design to show 1 leads group, and to toggle single leads on and off, as needed.
5. Allow the user to set an arbitrary grouping of leads, and to save that grouping for later use on other data files.
Pages need to be created :
1. Splash screen.
2. Landing screen.
3. Loading screen.
4. View Selection Lead screen (Group selection).
5. Single Lead screen.
6. Playback Leads screen (Group, Single)
7. Snapshot screen (Group, Single).
Please read doc file for detail information regarding the screens above.
Note : Please create landscape (horizontal) and portrait (vertical) orientation for 600x1024px resolution and creates alternatives screen (landscape and portrait) for screen 4 and 5 on less resolution (320x480px and 480x800px). There will be 26 pages need to be created.
Design Consideration :
1. Please note we need you to create a standard ECG background display grid that employs a 25 mm/sec horizontal time scale and a 10 mm/mV vertical voltage scale. We also concerned about how you design the waveform for every Lead, These design elements will account for a lot of the judging criteria.
2. In the future we need the ability to display desired subsets of the 12 leads (Group selection), specifically only the three limb leads at once (I, II, III or aVR, aV, aVF), or only the six precordial leads at once (V1 through V6), or only “any combination of 3 leads at once that the user himself can pre-select”. Aside from a list of groups in screen 4, you do not need to provide a design for these features, but your design should not make the future addition of these features difficult.
3. An ability to not only internally call (i.e., open) and display some portion of any provided binary 12-lead ECG file, but to also actively playback that file in its ~5-min entirety while simultaneously displaying the streaming data facts in playback.
4. An ability to also “stop” the same active playback noted above at any randomly-chosen time-display stopping point prior to the end of the file.
5. The ability to quickly navigate to and display any given point in time in the ~5-min 12-lead ECG file (i.e., in “stopped snapshot” viewing mode) without having to wait for the slow or fast playback of all the 12-lead ECG data that precede any given desired temporal snapshot display point.
Target Audience
1. Android smartphone user.
2. Doctors and nurses.
3. The above, working in very difficult or very extreme physical conditions; assume the application will be used in both humanitarian relief and space flight missions.
Judging Criteria
1. Cleanliness of your graphic and design.
2. How well your design handles waveforms and waveform navigation
3. The overall User Excperience
4. The completeness of information appearing on your design.
5. The Right Measurement for Grid ECG and The example Lead Waveform.
SUBMISSION & SOURCE FILES
PREVIEW IMAGE: Please create your preview image as one (1) 1024x1024px JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place a screenshot of your submission within it.
SUBMISSION FILES: PNG/JPG Image contains all screen required.
SOURCE FILES: Final Submission File: All required screens stated above and all original, layered source files of the submitted design (PSD).
FINAL FIXES: As part of the final fixes phase you may be asked to modify your graphics, images (sizes or colors) or modify overall colors. Note that your PSD files should be logically organized and clearly labeled for client editing - If they are not - you will need to clean them up during final fixes.
Please read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.
