Challenge Summary

The DARPA CS-STEM project contains a number of different activities for users to participate in. We have a number of ideas that are going to be implemented, and one is "The Ball". This activity is intended for 13-18 year old demographic.

For this contest, we need a NEW webpage design for the "Play a Level" screen of "The Ball" activity game.

For more information about the project, please visit the following pages:

Primary Goal & Design Considerations
For this contest, you will design the page that will hold "Play a Level" screen of "The Ball" activity game, this type of game is using an iFrame to load a 3rd party website that has an embedded hidden "balls", forcing the user to interact with the 3rd party website to find the hidden balls.

To understand more about "The Ball" Activity Game, here is the game http://ec2-184-73-20-144.compute-1.amazonaws.com/web/cs-stem/scavenger-hunt that we are improving. And here's the workflow of the game.

  • The home page will contain a link that the user can click to start the activity.
  • The first screen in the activity will display all available hunts to play along with the score of each hunt
  • The user can click on a hunt on the list to start playing
  • Each Hunt will consist of multiple websites (stops), each web site (stop) will have a ball hidden and to find this ball the user will need to put the mouse steady over the right place (word) on the active web site for 2 seconds and "You found the ball" message will show up.
  • When the user finds a ball of the active website, and the hunt is not finished yet (there are still more web pages to hit in the active hunt), then the user will be presented with a link to go to the next web site. If the user completes the websites (stops) and the hunt has ended then he will be informed about this and will be redirect back to the main page.
  • If the hunt is finished (all web pages have been visited), the user will be informed about this and he will be shown the number of points that he has accumulated and the awards received.

Requirements
The goal of this contest is to design a "Play a Level" page that will be used by NoNameSite.com for "The Ball" activity game. You need to design ONE page with the features outlined below.

  • Design a page that display a webpage in an iFrame with a top navigation bar (toolbar) that display the required information about the active hunt and navigation elements to navigate between hunts and main page. This called the iframe toolbar technique, it allows us to present hunt stop content from a different site using an iframe element, while still having a small part of the browser displaying a small toolbar at the top. This toolbar allows the Scavanger Hunt activity to interact with its users while they consume external content, here is an example from linkedIn, this is for reference only, you MUST NOT use any elements from that example.
  • You must show how the screen looks in 1024px width and more wider screens.
  • There needs to be something exciting happening when player find “the ball”. Maybe there is a ball that bounces up with fireworks or something exciting when you do indeed find it on each site. Show us ideas around this concept and MUST show animated design for this work in your submission.
  • The top navigation bar (toolbar) should contain at least the following information :
    • NoNameSite.com logo
    • Hunt name (level name)
    • active website (stop) link
    • Timer
    • Total Score
    • How to play? link
    • Hints area (Can this be a hidden area with an element to show hide the hints?)
    • Hint icon and number of remaining hints
    • Balls Collected in the hunt
    • Next/Previous Hunt elements (This should be optional as there might no previous or next hunt)
    • Back to home page link
    • What else?

Colors, Font, and Size:
