Challenge Summary

Studio is building the first iteration of its new member profiles, which are intended to reflect the creativity of our community. We are seeking a refreshing new page layout that intelligently departs from convention. Because we are initially implementing a subset of the features that are ultimately planned, the ideal wireframes will leave room for growth.

Round 1

Milestone submissions are due three days after the start of the contest. Up to three milestone winners will be chosen for an award of $100 each. These winners as well as all other contestants with a passing submission in Round 1 are eligible to compete in Round 2.

Round 2

Final submissions are due three days after the end of Round 1.

General layout

There is no need to follow the layout of any previously implemented profiles on Studio or the main TopCoder site. In fact, we encourage you to explore new approaches to laying out a member profile.

Required features

The first iteration of Studio member profiles will display the features listed below on one page. The order of the list is not prescriptive: you may arrange and group these features in any way you like. Features marked with an asterisk (*) are explained in further detail after the list.

  • member handle
  • member photo: assume a size of 126 x 140 pixels
  • nationality: country name together with flag icon from FamFamFam
  • member since: the date on which the member joined
  • earnings: total prize money won
  • currently registered: a list of the active contests in which the member is registered
  • personal banner*
  • badges*
  • recent submissions*
  • winning submissions*
  • forum activity*

The personal banner is a rectangular area, the size of which you should decide yourself. It will serve to decorate the member profile. Members may choose to fill the banner with a textual quote and/or an image. Initially we will offer a limited set of banner images for members to choose from. Your wireframe should include a pop-up interface that lets the member edit their quote, select a banner image, and choose whether to display the quote and/or the banner.

Badges are icons representing member achievements. For the time being we don't have a full list of achievements to be recognized, but we would like to display a few initial badges in the member profile in order to demonstrate this feature and to inspire member suggestions. Assume that badges will be approximately 48 by 48 pixels in size and roughly circular in shape, and that up to 24 will be displayed. Initially we will display badges for the following achievements:

  • first submission: member has made at least one submission since joining
  • frequent submitter: member has made at least one submission in each of the last three months
  • recent winner: member has had a winning placement within the past 30 days

Recent submissions are depictions of the last five to ten submissions made by the member, with the exact number to be decided by you. Details to be shown are the contest title, contest type, date and time of submission, and thumbnail if available. You can assume that in the future we will add icons to indicate screening status and review results. The Studio contest types are listed in the file that is provided for download with this contest.

Winning submissions may be displayed in a larger or otherwise different format than recent submissions, at your discretion. You can assume that we will add icons to depict the winning placement (first place, second place, etc.), and that winning submissions will not be shown in the list of recent submissions.

Forum activity will show the first 140 characters from the member's most recent Studio forum post, with a link to the full post. It will also provide links to the four next recent Studio forum posts, and a link to the member's full posting history in the Studio forums. The full Studio forum posting history is a separate page which you must also wireframe.

Target audience

The Studio member profiles will be used primarily by Studio members. Administrators and clients should be considered as a secondary audience.

Judging criteria

We are looking for innovative layouts that depart from conventional member profiles in useful and interesting ways. We will also be judging your wireframes on completeness, ease of navigation, and room for expansion.

How To Submit

  • New to Studio? ‌Learn how to compete here
  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.
