Challenge Summary

Welcome to TopCoder Ignition Logo Contest! In this contest we are looking for a fresh new logo for "TopCoder Ignition".

We already run a logo contest and received some nice logo designs, the client like some of the ideas and feel they are close but not quite there. They are a little too detailed which makes them seem a little cluttered.

In this repost, TopCoder is looking for something clean that represents the spark that happens when an idea meets TopCoder community of designers, developers and analysts.  Trying to get something that represents the beginning of something new -  a new product or business for instance; elements coming together that represent the beginning of something great.

Round 1

At the end of Round 1, we will choose up to five (5) Round 1 winners, each will win $50 as Round 1 Milestone Winners. These winners and any member who had a passing submission in round one will be eligible to compete in Round 2 for the additional prizes.

Round 2

Round 2 will start with the announcement of the Round 1 winners and their design review from the Client.

Project Overview

The idea behind TopCoder Ignition is to open up the platform to allow companies (and possibly individuals) to leverage the TopCoder platform and community to build their application, and to have the members who worked on the application SHARE in the value generated by that application. For a client, it means the ability to build an application with a minimal up-front investment. For members it means moving beyond simple monetary prizes for their work, and optionally giving up the immediate monetary compensation in return for a potentially bigger upside.

After the application is completed, TopCoder will be involved in the application's lifecycle to the degree necessary for tracking generated revenue (or other forms of value created). TopCoder will then pay members who worked on that application proportionally to their contribution. This is analogous to what TopCoder already does with royalties on generic components, but in this case applied to an entire application. TopCoder, in providing the platform and subsequent revenue management, will also take a portion of the revenue sharing.

Conceptualization document is attached for your reference, it explains the TopCoder Ignition concept.

Goals and Requirements
Your goal is to design the logo for the TopCoder Ignition that will be used on the website (www.topcoder.com/labs/).  The website idea delivers the message of sharing risk and investing effort to share in potential future revenue.

Here are some notes to consider in the design :

  • Incorporate a four points coming together to make a spark in some nice way, we want something that builds on that idea.
  • Incorporate TopCoder brackets, the client likes, but not strictly wants, the TopCoder brackets (used in TopCoder logos).
  • Add the emphasis in Ignition vs. TopCoder words, e.g. ignition big, TopCoder small.
  • Stick to regular fonts used in current TopCoder Logo .
  • It will might be used for print media, clothing, banners, etc. However, please optimize your submissions for the web.
  • Concept, composition and simplicity will be taken into serious consideration in the selection process. Most great logos share some characteristics; they are clean, simple and easy to remember. We want the same for this logo. The winning logo will be used on the website, in the banner, and potentially on apparel.

Note that Client needs the logo in a horizontal and vertical version.
