Challenge Summary
Welcome to Soteria Exposure Registry Submission Form Storyboard Contest.
Soteria promotes safety in the workplace and one aspect of safety is exposure to hazardous materials or chemicals. The ability for workers to register their exposures with Soteria allows for better tracking and documentation if and when problems occur.
The Exposure Registry program will provide the workers, employers and others (ex. worker representatives, health care professionals, etc.) the ability to register exposure incidents that occurred in the workplace, including historical ones. Users who are registering an exposure might be 1) a worker, 2) a family member, or other worker representative, 3) an employer 4) a representative of an employer.
At the end of this contest, the client is looking for two *different* types of web designs for the application:
- a clean, simple, light and impressive storyboard
- a welcoming, easy-to-use, guided storyboard experience
Please read the contest details below for more information, and please post questions in the forums.
Round 1
Submission design for client review:
You should complete as many screens as possible showing BOTH designs. Submissions showing only one design (for either worker or employer types) in the first round will be considered incomplete.
- Notes: Any comments about your design for the Client (Let us know what you changed!)
- Please number your files in the order they should be viewed (01,02,03,04,etc)
- Pages Although your submission will not be disqualified if it does not contain these screens, we would like to see these screens for the milestone review at a minimum:
- main.html
- New Registry - 1. Exposure Info (worker design)
- New Registry - 1. Exposure Info (employer design)
- New Registry - 4. Attachment (worker design)
- New Registry - 4. Attachment (employer design)
- New Registry - Summary (worker design)
- New Registry - Summary (employer design)
Round 2
Submission design for client review:
- All the screens listed in the requirement.
- Notes: Any comments about your design for the Client (Let us know what you changed!)
- Please number your files in the order they should be viewed (01,02,03,04,etc)
Primary Goals:
The client wants a web storyboard which will provide users the ability to register exposure incidents in a user-friendly manner. The audience will be broad. It will span from users who are not computer-literate, or English is not their first language to users who have dealt with Soteria in the past and are already familiar with the terminology used. Therefore the client is looking for an application that is:
- interactive
- adaptable to the audience using it
- simple to use
- the look and feel is not ‘government-bland’
- the data collection process should be interactive and user-friendly.
Types of Users:
Worker Type
This user could either be:
- A worker
- Somebody representing a worker
Worker Type Design Goals
There is a wide variety of computer literacy within this group so it is important that the design be accessible to everyone and easy to use. In many cases the worker in question will have recently been exposed to something at their workplace that is potentially harmful. Though the word "friendly" could be used to describe a design goal, the design should be appropriate for the context (situation of the worker).
- accessible
- easy-to-use (no complex features)
- friendly
- use of stock photography encouraged but not required
Employer Type
This user could either be:
- An employer
- Somebody representing an employer
Employer Type Design Goals
There is a wide variety of computer literacy within this group as some employers may be owners of a small business with little use for computers. It is safe to assume that some employer type users will be advanced computer users
- This user is an employer (company)
- They many want to register multiple exposures at one time
- They many want to register one exposure for multiple works
- They my need to perform this registration as part of running their business
- accessibility
- easy-to-use (no complex features)
Winning Wireframe:
Please click through the winning wireframe as each user type to understand the general flow of the application. Notice that different types of users have different are asked for different pieces of information. This is what you should follow for your own wireframes. The current experience of the wireframe is not final and you are *required* to update it as part of your design submission (page elements, page layout, and even flow). This wireframe is closer to that of the employer experience, but still needs to be updated for both employer and worker design types.
Second Place Wireframe:
We have also provided a second place wireframe, which is closer to that of the worker experience. Please note that the information collected from the user by this wireframe is incorrect, so you should use the winning wireframe instead. The second place wireframe is only provided to show the difference in experience and what the client feels is closer to the worker experience. Please keep this in mind when you are creating your designs - the more user friendly you can make the worker experience, the better.
Detail Requirements:
1. Size, The page width must set to 1024px with content width must set to 960px, we want it to support less resolution monitor.
2. Fonts, Fonts are open to the designer, But we encourage you to choose and use web safe font. Please be aware of font delivery requirement.
3. Color, you are free to use any color as basic for your color schemes. We're not strict about color schemes, but please limit your color schemes, limit it to 3 main colors and 3 secondary colors. Feel free to use your creativity here.
Required Pages:
You do not need to show every variation of every screen for the click paths below - you should show a "complete click-path" through the sections so we have a clear understanding of what the user is seeing.
1) Main Exposure Registry page
Reference "main.html"
- Single page design for both Worker and Employer types
2) Worker type screens/click-path
Reference "New_Registry_Worker_.html"

- Note the multiple screens within each "Step"
- Provide hover condition for links/buttons
Additional:
- Tell us what you did! (in a text file or document, describe what sets your designs apart - you do not need to include every detail of what you changed, but make sure to highlight what you feel is most important about what you did)
- The Help Functinality in this application is an important section. We want your ideas to make this interactive, easy to use, and designed well.
Target Audience:
1. Worker Types (workers and someone else representing a worker)
2. Employer Types (employers and someone else representing an employer)
3. Wide variety of user backgrounds, and levels of computer literacy.
Branding Guidelines :
There are no branding guidelines. Please use a placeholder for the log.
Judging criteria :
1. Overall, the client wants a) a clean, simple, light and impressive storyboard for employer types and b) a welcoming, easy-to-use, guided storyboard experience for worker types.
2. The client wants to see how you will change the wireframe (page elements, page layout, and even flow) further to meet the needs of worker and employer types.
3. The completeness of your storyboard.
4. The quality of your design as well as following the provided guidelines.
Prizes and Winning:
It is important to note that your submission will only be considered complete if it includes two distinct designs (one for each user type) that meet the judging criteria listed above. There are intentionally 4 large prizes for this contest because the client hopes to select multiple winners for each user type to show to their clients. It is possible that the client will not choose 4 winners if the designs are considered incomplete. It is also possible that the client will choose more than 4 winners if they like more than 4 designs.
