Welcome to TCO12 iPad App Design Contest! We want to build an iPad app for TCO12 event. The app will be used by attendance to keep track of latest updates on the event, discuss and share activities during the event .. etc
The goal of this contest to design the iPad app for the TCO12 event.
Round 1
We would like to see the screens of all the outlined elements in 1st Round
Round 2
Submit all screens with revised version of 1st round.
TCO attendance have a lot to keep track of during the onsite TCO event. If you had an iPad app for next year's event, what would you want to see?
Your goal is to design the required elements below - in landscape view - of the information that matters most to TCO attendance. We're looking for an exciting, visual design that will give app users a quick overview of the finalists, TCO sponsors, famous avenues, TCO schedule, latests updates about onsite rounds, discuss and share activities with other TCO attendance ..etc.
Design Requirements
There are no wireframes provided in this contest, the layout the screens and the number of the screens are up to you. We are looking for sleek, refined and highly visual.
Required Elements
1. Splash Screen
2. Landing Page - TCO Blog Feed, News feed and Twitter Widget
We want TCO Blog feed to be placed in the home page of the app, with user ability to like, tweet or share the blog post, it is preferred when the screen loads for first time that the recent 5 blog posts are displayed with an option/button to load more posts. News headlines from TopCoder news should be added to the screen as well, it should be linked to original news post, so when user click on the news headline it will open up the news post page.
Also, we want to have a twitter widget for the tco twitter account activities, the app users will keep track of latest tweets, retweet, reply for tweets, refer to this page for more info : https://twitter.com/about/resources/widgets/widget_list
3. TCO Schedule of the onsite events screen
Design a screen for the TCO Schedule of the onsite events http://community.topcoder.com/tco12/overview-onsite-events/
For this storyboard, All events should have a corresponding unique landmark/famous location in Washington DC (assume TCO12 will take place there). So, we would like to add another column "Venue" to the schedule list, then the event in the schedule table can be something like "8:30-9:00AM - Welcome Reception at South Palm Court - The White House", in this event entry the "White House" is the venue, it should be a link that will redirect user to Map page (refer to Map screen below) and show Washington DC with all the venue markers, but the "white house" marker is highlighted. When they click on the white house marker, an information window opens up about the white house and talk about the reception, the user can ask for directions to the white house (walk/drive/bus) directions. We are being whimsical here, we want TCO attendance to assume that we're going crazy with the TCO and we are looking to make the attendance explore all the famous locations for all the events.
4. Map Screen
We would like to use Map to add overlays and give quick overview of the following items :
- TCO Finalists - There are different categories for TCO finalists, you can find an example in past TCO11 program pdf http://community.topcoder.com/tco11/wp-content/themes/tco11/i/TCO11_Program_Web.pdf. The champion of each track should have special highlights or special color or special marker design. Clicking on any finalist marker should open up an information window, the information to display in the window should be similar to what exists in the pdf.
- TCO sponsors - The map should also add markers for the headquarter location of the TCO sponsors, clicking on any of the marker should open up an info windows with sponsor logo, country and website link and brief description about the company.
- TCO Venues from the TCO schedule - we would like to help attendance to explore famous venues in the city that TCO event will take place, so we want to add overlay markers for the famous venues in the city, venues are connected with TCO events, so when user click on a venue, an info window opens up with info. and details about the associated TCO event, location of venue and option to get walk/drive/bus direction to the venue.
- Restaurants - Also we want to add an overlay restaurants where TCO coupons are accepted, the popup window should also have basic info about the restaurants and link to get direction to it.
- Refer to http://local.google.com/, in the right side there is a small images (with captions satellite and traffic), when you hover or click on them, you will get the type of map preview to use (satellite, or earth), and the other one will give you all available overlays (traffic, videos, wikipedia, whether ..etc), we want to design similar thing for TCO so use can choose what to display (Development finalists, Studio finalists, Restaurants, Sponsors ..etc), note that we don't want you to add images or logos for overlays, we want you to design a nice marker for each category.
- We will support different map types (Satellite, Standard and hybrid) but please show in your submission the map preview using satellite view.
5. Discussion screen
We want to integrate the app with a TCO Facebook Group so user can discuss, share photos and videos of the TCO events and activities. You need to design a screen for that (here is the past TCO Facebook Group Page https://www.facebook.com/TopCoderOpen), we want you to design *wall* section in that page, so user can share posts/videos/photos or comment/like existing post/video/photo. Also, design an image viewer popup to view posted photos in the wall, it should be a slider viewer so user can navigate back and forth to view the photos, it should contain a section below it to like/comment on the photo. Note that user should be logged in to Facebook to comment/like/share to the group wall, so add a "Facebook login" button to the page when user is not logged in with the page as only readonly for the non-logged in user. Please don't complicate things for this screen, we want it to be a simple design of the wall and the image viewer.
