Primary Goal & Design Considerations

For this contest, your task is to design the screens of TrendIT iPad Application with the features outlined below. The objective of the application is to give a voice to our users to identify trends and even create trends. At scale, our application would allow brand managers to listen to these voices and respond to users' preferences. Our revenue generation opportunities would come through both advertisements from companies who are Trending (or not Trending) on our app and also through brokered interactions between brand managers and power Trenders (those who have a lot of followers).

The goal of this contest is to design an iPad application – a Flipboard type interface with fashion categories (clothes, shoes, watches), when users tap on a category they will to the content that was generated by network of their friends. They can then tag the content/photo with opinion from among a set of emotions and categories.

Users will engage with this app because it will project their interest graph and accurately reflect fashion items and looks that are part of their world. An example of how users will engage with the app can be seen in this wireframe: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5565971/TrendIt/TrendIt_Wireframe/TrendIt.html (PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU CAN'T USE ANY IMAGE FROM THIS DROPBOX PAGE)

General Guidelines:

  1. We are looking for a native iOS GUI, the app should use as the native/iOS User Gestures. It is critical that your design takes advantage of user gestures - multi-touch, swipe, pinch, grab, tapping, etc. Please clearly document how you intend users to physically interact with your interface. For guidelines on iOS standard, please refer to this iOS Standard page.

  2. Size: iPad 2 - 1024-by-768-pixel resolution at 72 pixels per inch (ppi)

  3. Orientation: You are going to design both iPad app orientations (Landscape and Portrait)

    - featured topics are custom articles to be generated based on the users' stated interests and items posted by other users in his/her location, etc. These change periodically (e.g., every week, or each time the user access the app)
    - trending topics is a permanent sections highlighting photographs of specific items (e.g., outfits, shoes, bags). - "All the latest posts from your network" will lead to "More Articles" screen

    - this will be a screen showing all the bookmarked photos

  7. Upload photos and tag
    - this screen will be a tool to upload and tag photos
    - the uploaded tagged photos appear in other users' customized "magazines", depending on users' relationship with them and the interests defined in their profile - for this page alone, create a version of this page for iPhone use. This is also for both orientation, and sizes should be for regular iPhone resolution (480-by-320pixel resolution at 163 ppi) and with retina display (960-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi)
