Challenge Overview

Project Overview

"The Colony" is a game hosted in NoNameSite.com, It is a fun strategy game in which users need to build and defend colony base as well as compete, defeat, and destory the enemy's colony!

In this contest we want to address the following :

  • Create 10 missions, start off very easy, we need the difficulty to be incrementally for this set of missions, and it should cover all the programming concepts in the game, by the end of this missions set, the player should be experienced all major programming blocks in the game.
  • Define Enemy behavior in AI Mode, the enemy should only be "ANT", no "BEE" in this game.
  • Ideas for how to improve the Operands and Variables sections in the game, for example, we don't have right now expressions to retrieve the colony gathered resources amount/points, we don't have variable/expression to retrieve number of hits an ant/enemy can get/left when attacking .. etc. We are looking for more ideas to let kids leverage the Operands/Variables/Controls blocks.

Please play the game live to understand it https://www.nonamesite.com/web/cs-stem/colony-landing

The missions will be used in a tournament that will take place in 14th September, the tournament will run in multiple rounds, the missions to be created in this contest will be used in the first round, the missions should be around the "easy-difficulity", we will have more contests in future to create more difficult level sets.

What things would you like to deliver to your audience through this content?

We want to deliver the following :

  • Set of missions :
    • It should be exactly 10 missions

      • Mission description (this will be placed in mission popup)
      • Mission tips and tricks (this will be placed in mission popup) - it can be a mix of graphics and text
    • Each mission should focus on teaching or making the player to use specific blocks or skill set, if there is a specific block or skill you want to bring player attention to it, then it is preferred to add that note under "Tips and Tricks" section
  • We want enemy to be involved in some of the missions, but we don't have a definition for how enemey should behave in AI Mode. We are turning to you for your ideas. This may require adding new features or code blocks to the game, we encourage you to suggest what things we need to improve.
  • Improvement to Operands/Variables/Control sections in code editor. We are not looking for modification in blocks behavior, right now what we have is working and looks good, we want to add to what we have right now. We only accept modification or omitting existing block if you are introducing better feature with minimal development efforts.
