Challenge Summary

Welcome to Styx NGHSB Menu Bar Icon Design Contest. Next Generation Hotel System is a web based application which will be an enhanced version of hotel check-in and management capabilities currently provided by an existing system. We are looking for a new set of icons for the NGHSB program, this is part 1 of the icon contest.

This is the part 1 of the NGHSB Icon contest, For this contest we are looking for a new set of 8 icons for the NGHSB Menu bar. Please see below details about the contest requirements:

General Icon Requirements:
The icons must be in the following format:
-Sizes: 64x64, 32x32, 16x16
-PNG for final icon, PSD source files
-Transparent background

Menu bar Icon Requirements:
-The menu bar is at the top of all our web pages|
-It consists of 8 choices that are represented by icons and user localizable text.
-The background (black above) can be changed to several other color schemes and requires transparent background icons
-The icons are for our hospitality access control product.  If any context needs to be shown in the icons it must reflect a ‘hotel’ or ‘hospitality’ context
-Icons should not contain English specific text as the application needs to be localized to several languages
-Icons should reflect a modern style such as Icons used in iOS and Windows 7
-Icons should have a consistent style.
-The icons will be used in a business application.
-Application is used in time critical application.  Customers usually are zipping through menus to perform functions.  Icons should be distinguishable.

Meaning of the Icons:
The meaning of the icon functions are as follows:

Home:  the main screen of the user it contains frequently used functions and some information pertinent to their jobs.  It is the first screen the user sees when he logs on
Reception – The most frequent operations perfumed at the front desk of a hotel
Masters – the management of hotel staff and where they have access
Cards – the management of different card types and what they can do in the system
Maintenance – Diagnostics and tools to set-up/debug/troubleshoot the system
Reports – PDF, CSV, XML reports of data in the system
Tech Support – advanced system configuration and troubleshooting specifically for Onity technicians
Help – Help and ‘About’

I have provided the overall Application image, these new icons which you are designing will be place in the top as indicated in the image. Don't get influced by these icon designs, we are looking for completely new set of icons with the above mentioned requirements.

Submission & Source Files 
Preview Image 
Please create your preview image as one (1) 1024x1024 PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place a screenshot of your submission within it. You are free to resize or crop your submission to fit this size, but do not add any filters or elements for dramatic effect, such as drop shadows or reflections. 

Submission File
 

Submit PNG for your submission file based on requirements stated above. 

Source Files
 
All original source files. Original source files should be saved as layered Photoshop PSD files 

Final Fixes 
As part of the final fixes phase you may be asked to modify your graphics (sizes or colors) or modify overall colors.

Please read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.

Stock Photography

Stock photography is not allowed in this challenge. All submitted elements must be designed solely by you. See this page for more details.

How To Submit

  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.

Submission format

Your Design Files:

  1. Look for instructions in this challenge regarding what files to provide.
  2. Place your submission files into a "Submission.zip" file.
  3. Place all of your source files into a "Source.zip" file.
  4. Declare your fonts, stock photos, and icons in a "Declaration.txt" file.
  5. Create a JPG preview file.
  6. Place the 4 files you just created into a single zip file. This will be what you upload.

Fonts, Stock Photos, and Icons:

All fonts, stock photos, and icons within your design must be declared when you submit. DO NOT include any 3rd party files in your submission or source files. Read about the policy.
