Challenge Summary

Welcome to the Praxis - IT Business Contributions Storyboard Concept Contest! The company is preparing to launch an internal IT marketing solution that is intended to highlight the IT business contributions through analytical measurements and other supporting project information. This application will be drillable from an Enterprise-wide aggregate level (dashboard) to a business unit specific level (details).

The goal of this contest is to create an innovative IT Dashboard solution that displays the 8 key information of IT business contributions that are outlined below. We are looking for an innovative solution and not "just another dashboard" that will be engaging for the executives. We are going to take different creative visual approaches and would the best approach and develop it out further.

For this contest we are looking for design concepts or different creative visual approaches of a Dashboard for overall display of the 8 metrics of the company as a whole then drill down on specific business unit (sub-company) for its details. We will then develop it out further in succeeding contest. The overall application UI is not important, what's important is how the information convey a positive message of what IT has done or is doing for the company

You are required to create at least 2 views (One is the dashboard, the other is the details view of specific business unit) but you are not restricted with these.

Round 1

1) Initial storyboard design with all the requirements mentioned below
2) Any note for the client about your submission
3) Number your submission (01, 02, 03, etc...) for easy client's review

Round 2

1) Final storyboard design with all the requirements mentioned below
2) Any note for the client about your submission
3) Number your submission (01, 02, 03, etc...) for easy client's review

Primary Goal & Design Considerations

The overall project goal is to have an HTML5 application where company's internal executives and professionals from different departments and functions can view IT Business Contributions within a non-IT company.

This application will offer the user the option to view what IT is doing for the company at an Enterprise aggregate view as well as easily switch to viewing similar/same page driven by dynamic data specific to view selection at one or one to many Business Unit level(s). A Business Units is a sub company under a parent company that has specific business functions. There will be 9 Business Units that can each be viewed separately and/or together.

The target device for this application will be browsers from desktop, tablets, and smartphones. For this contest, you only need to target the size of a desktop in a 1024x768 resolution.

Requirements

Your submission should include the following requirements:

  • Metrics
    - 8 key metrics should be displayed along with percentages and numbers pointing to improvements and changes across a 3 year trending cycle from current quarter.
    - The metrics to display are:

    1. IT Expense as a % of Total Operating Expense
    2. Total Value Creation from IT Enabled Projects
    3. Average Cost of IT per Employee
    4. Mean Time to Repair Incidents
    5. % of Projects On-Time
    6. Number of Incidents Escalated to CISO
    7. Number of Vendors With "Green" Status
    8. % Applications' Availability

Business metrics are type of measurements used to guage key important information of a company that helps better business decision. These are basically a graph or chart displaying business info such as Sales by region pie chart

Sample data for these metrics are in the provided Excel file. This file outlined the minimum and maximum value together with sample value for each metrics, if higher metrics value is better, and their color coded target percentage. You should play with them on how to present these data. These categories and subsequent metrics can be called out and shown explicitly or through whatever means you feel best fits the objective stated above.

  • Top IT Projects
    - this is an area to call out top IT Projects for the current year.
    - these projects should have at least its title and short description

There will be at least 2 views but you are not restricted with these:

  1. Enterprise Level View
The default home page or dashboard view will be at the Enterprise-wide level as a comprehensive summative view of all Business Units as one overall corporation. From this home page, users should be able to choose to look deeper into the details of specific metric/measure/percentage/number and have the option to look at the measures as they are specific to one Business Unit.

  2. Business Unit Views
This view will be for displaying metrics and information for a specific business unit

Important notes to consider:

  • Displays our metrics and measures of IT information at an enterprise level (dashboard) and have an option to view at specific BU levels in a way that shows the positive business contributions and projects

  • Shows these informations in an "obvious" way. Users don't have to look to hard or be trained on the tool to know what's improving, where we're at, etc.

  • Should show a "big picture" view but then allow users to drill down deeper into what's driving the number/percentage at least to one level deeper but ideally to two levels deeper. The first being maybe a split out between infrastructure and application cost/percentage for a given metric and then the ability to go one more level down to see more of the actual spreadsheet-like (not necessarily aesthetically but in nature) break down of the data itself.

  • Trending is important but the actual way it will be displayed is up to your creativity as long as it easily gets the message.

  • The display should be interactive depending on the user input/hover/movement etc...

Branding Guidelines
- We like the "sexiness" of Roambi's design BUT we don't like you to copy it
- The overall application UI is not important in this contest, what's important is how the metrics convey a positive message of what IT has done or is doing for the company

Target Audience
- top executives at the company (CEO,CFO,CTO,CIOs, etc)
- company's process owners and other employees.

Judging Criteria
Your submission will be judged on the following criteria:
- How well you implement the important notes outlined above
- How your metrics conveys positive message of what IT has done or is doing for the company
- How well you implement the required data and any suggestions, interactions and user flow you recommend (provide any notes or comments for the client)
