Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) are becoming more important concepts in the health care industry. The EHR & EMR is the collection of electronic health information of a patient or population. Electronic Health Information could include information ranging from patient's demographics, medical history, attending doctor details, Insurance details, personal stats like age and weight etc.

To know more about these electronic health information records, I have provided the links to their Wikipedia links below – reading it will give you an idea on the purpose of these records.

Design Problem:
Following are the design problems/shortcomings in the existing methods for viewing an Electronic Medical Information Record,

1) Currently these records (EMR) are not available in an easily readable format for everyone as it is displayed as a XML (these are usually available for a printout). We have attached the XML sample files for three types of EMR formats (ADT, ORU and CCD).
2) The data in EMR are not grouped by sections and data is not searchable.

EMR Users:
Knowing the users of this application is very critical in creating the design concepts for the application, see below for the users who will be using this application.

-Medical Records Management (MRM) Team: People in this team manages, maintains and updates the EMR application.
-Business Units: These people use the application for their day to day work flow. The business units might need to find specific data, want to be alerted about a trend or need to add to the EMR document.

Design Concepts Considerations:
1) Page Layout:
-Give more thought on how you design the page layout and be creative with this.
-Follow the current design trends that are being used in the existing EMR.
-You can show what you feel is right and express your ideas and you are not restricted to anything.

2) UI Elements:
-You can come up with UI elements like icons, forms elements, anything else you think is necessary to your design concepts.
-Please make sure follow the Humana Design Guidelines (Humana_Design_Guidelines.pdf)

Design Concepts Pages:
1) EMR Dashboard:
-Main purpose of the dashboard is to show information overview of the EMR Documents
-We can provide a search here for the user to search for the EMR document based on a unique identifier.
-Apart from that, what else can be shown in the dashboard?

2) Search Results:
-May be page to display the EMR documents results based on the search from the previous page?

DO NOT Spend much time for the above pages (EMR Dashboard and Search Results), as they will be covered in the future phases of the project, but we would like to see your ideas on that.

3) EMR Viewer: (IMPORTANT PAGE)
-This is the most important page of all, as it is page where the EMR document is viewed.
-Data in the EMR document need to be grouped by sections i.e. different views or data sections are displayed for different business areas and mark up or highlight pieces of data in the EMR.
-Need the ability to configure the sections in the viewer based on what matters most to the individual (Business Unit). For Example: Some business units might mainly work with the doctor visits, so they would want that section accessible for them or default selected section of the EMR document displays
-The business units should not be able to edit the original document, but they do need the abiliy to make notes about an EMR and store it along with the EMR document, so the next person knows what notes the previous person made whereas Medical Records Management (MRM) Team should be able to edit it.
-Need the ability to search the data within the EMR document.
-Should provide an option to export the currently viewed document to multiple formats like XML, PDF, TIFF etc.
-Should provide an option to print the document.
-Attached a couple of examples (EMR Screen Samples) of an EMR Document in a viewer (DO NOT COPY - Please come up with your own design concepts.), this example is the preferred way for viewing a EMR Document rather than viewing it as an XML.
-You can use dummy text or use text/sections from EMR Screen Samples or anything else you research (which could help you in designing with the EMR viewer trends).

Branding Guidelines:
-Humana has general look & feel for web application that need to be followed. Attached the Humana Design Guidelines (Humana_Design_Guidelines.pdf)
-Be creative with the design guidelines and use color combinations that works well with your User Interface.
-Keep things consistent. All of the graphics should have a similar feel and general aesthetic appearance.

Target User
-Medical Records Management (MRM) Team
-Business Units

Judging Criteria
-How well you research the current trends in EMR.
-How well you create your design concepts and whether they solve the design problem.
-Cleanliness of your graphics and design
