Challenge Summary

We’re very excited to continue with this challenge. We need to design a stunning eBook for TopCoder. We’re looking forward to see editorial worthy designs, with a modern touch and the sharpness that identifies the new TopCoder website. In this contest you need to design a few pages only using an existing design as guideline. Welcome and join!

Round 1

Deliver all the required pages for a review under the “Design Requirements” section.

Round 2

As final round deliver all of the required pages from the “Design Requirements” section plus client feedback.

The goal of this contest is to design the content pages of the TopCoder eBook. We already have the front and back covers, and content pages that we’re providing here. You’ll be designing the content pages, some graphics and merging that with the existing design.

TopCoder is the thought leader on getting problems solved via Crowdsourcing and Open Innovation. This book helps to showcase our knowledge about EOI (Enterprise Open Innovation) and do so in a clean, fun, educational way; in other words, we don’t want it to be boring.

An eBook can be presented in several known formats; we’re using common PDF for our eBook which will be available on the TopCoder website for download.

Overall, it needs to be clean, easy to read, to provide beautiful fonts, smart use of fonts. We do NOT need a lot of text to fill up an eBook. It is NOT a whitepaper, it is NOT academic research. It is meant to be light and to the point.

Branding Guidelines
- Use the provided source files (TopCoder-Crowdsourcing-eBook.zip) of the current design as visual reference for your work. Keep the same page size which is 5.5" x 7.5" (follow the margin guidelines).
- Fonts are open to the designer but try to be consistent with the existing fonts already. Be wise when choosing your fonts, we want to see nice typography, playing with the sizes. Declare your fonts according to the Studio font’s policies. If you don’t have any of the fonts from the provided storyboard replace them with Arial and add a note about it. You will be asked to replace the font if you become a winner.
- Overall graphics should feel like the TopCoder website. Keep consistence with the provided design. Avoid black or dark colors as a predominant color. We’re open to various color schemes. Think of monochromatic, simple, elegant, but don’t be afraid of color.

Design Requirements
Overall updates
- Keep the order of pages. First the front cover, then introduction, followed by table of content, the new pages and last the back cover.
- Make sure to update the content from page 01 – page 08 with the new content since there are important grammar fixes.

Table of Contents
- Update this index properly. Once you have all your pages make sure to point out the right page numbers, that’s it.
- Replace word “Section” with “Part”.

Content Pages
- Create all necessary pages to accommodate the text from the provided content document (
ebook_content.doc) into your design.
- Keep consistency with titles, font sizes, colors.
- Be gentle with the text treatment, don't just paste it. You should read it in order to notice certain points where could be necessary or useful to add some emphasis or small graphic highlights, which would be nice.
- Create a graphic for each introduction of “Part” pages (see page 04 from source file for reference). You need to create 2 graphics like this one, same style but making reference to the corresponding section (Execution, Growth). Place these graphics in the corresponding introduction pages (page #6, page #12 from content document).
- Notice that every burning question has an answer (page 06, page 08 from source). Create an Answers generic graphic that can be used in all the questions no matter what the content is. Use this new graphic for all the answer introductions, including page 06 and page 08.
- Modify “Let’s Define It” section (see page 05 from source). Remove the dollar bills and adjust the text inside. This will be the new style for this “Let’s Define It” section. Use it wherever they are needed according to the content document (including page 07).
- Add the provided Cockpit images (
CockpitScreenshots.zip) on the "Specifically on the TopCoder EOI Platform" section from page #12 of content document. Notice there is a text that says "Insert images with short description copy of each image (3 to 4 images)"; the captions are the same picture names.
