Challenge Summary

The Open Payments project is building software to encourage financial transparency in the healthcare industry. This contest deals with an iPhone app that will be used by a manufacturer's field agents to record payments and other transfers of value to physicians and teaching hospitals. We are seeking an attractive UI kit for building the interface represented by the attached wireframes. Note that we are not asking for complete storyboards. We are asking you to design data input elements and icons.

Round 1

A complete UI kit as specified below.

Round 2

Your UI kit revised according to checkpoint feedback.

Overview

The iPhone app for recording payments and other transfers of value will be built according to the attached wireframes. You may wish to consult the attached Conceptualization document for background information about the Open Payments project.

The app presents two distinct interfaces according to user role:

  • field agent of the healthcare manufacturer or group purchasing organization
  • physician or teaching hospital

The field agent is the person who is making the payment or transfer of value. This person is referred to as the gift giver in some of the documentation, but we are moving toward the more general terminology above. The physician or teaching hospital receives the payment or transfer of value. This entity is therefore described as the recipient.

Each type of user logs in separately and sees a version of the interface that supports their particular role. However, the payment information must be the same on both sides. The field agent is responsible for entering all information about the payment. The recipient is only expected to enter personal information, and perhaps not even that. The field agent can enter the recipient's personal information manually if the recipient isn't using the iPhone app.

Requirements

We are seeking designs for all input elements that appear in the app wireframes, including the following.

  • single-line text input
  • multiple-line text input
  • alphanumeric input: fixed number of characters
  • small text button
  • large text button
  • radio buttons
  • expand details
  • hide details
  • dropdown menu
  • payment list: table headers with sorting buttons

The following icons are required.

  • home
  • edit user profile
  • new mail
  • start a Bluetooth connection
  • accept a Bluetooth connection
  • manual entry (record recipient data manually)
  • browse payments
  • search payments
  • send payment information
  • log out

We are targeting iOS 7, the redesigned operating system for the iPhone. Please review the currently available materials on its design, including the following.

We realize that iOS 7 is a moving target to some extent. We don't expect perfect adherence to a design philosophy that hasn't been fully realized yet. However, we would like you to take inspiration from current materials to design a UI kit that will look more at home in iOS 7 than iOS 6.

The targeted device is the iPhone 5. Bear in mind the dimensions and resolution of the screen:

  • 4-inch diagonal widescreen display
  • 1136-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 pixels per inch

The app is being built for portrait mode, meaning that the screen will be tall rather than wide.

Target audience

  • payers: the field agents of a healthcare manufacturer or group purchasing organization
  • recipients: physicians and teaching hospitals

Judging criteria

Functionality: Does your UI kit cover the components required to build the existing wireframes?

Aesthetics: Do these UI elements fit in well with what we know about iOS 7?

What to submit

Submission: One or more PNG images of your UI kit.

Source: Source files.
