Challenge Overview

We have a comercial product that relys on a local Postgres database. This project relates to creating some core technology to allow multiple independant 'sites' to synchronize their data by copying updates made at the database at each site to other sites.

Our needs are for a simple but performat system, which can be created in either Java or C++, and which will run on our Linux-based appliances. The solution should focus on Postgres, but ideally with the ability to extend to SQL Server. We are able to externally control how the database is used, so wish to focus the project on a simple 'last writer wins' approach, rather than a more comprehensive distributed transaction system. We belive this will allow a more robust and performant system than the more general purpose solutions available elsewhere.

The project will involve the creation of a suitable subsystem, together with a test harness to validate its function.
