Challenge Overview

Project Overview

The client is in the business of providing financial guaranty insurance. They manage thousands of insurance policies. The insurance policies have to be analyzed for various attributes each quarter. The analyses could involve change in status of the policies.

Global Surveillance is a group within client’s organization that monitors the underlying financial product insured by a policy.  Their business is to insure primarily fixed income securities like Municipal Bonds.  Surveillance keeps an eye on those bonds through the life of the policy.

The client needs a web based application that can manage the various insurance entities. The application can be called as Variable Interest Entities Consolidation (VIE consolidation or VIEC). It will be one of the many line of business applications (LOB).

The purpose of the project is to build an application to automate processes performed by the client’s Surveillance department. The client can identify transactions that they may have the power to direct activities of the Variable Interest Entity (VIE).

Task Overview

The goal of this contest to convert the storyboard into working prototype, a wireframe is provided to get the flow of the screen. Storyboard has higher priority than wireframe unless for this case. Refer to the Wireframe, following are pages that are required to be implemented:

  • Login (Failed and Successful login)
  • Home (Analyst)
  • VIE Consolidation (Analyst) and all its children pages (state)
  • Review Changes (Sector Lead)
  • History Reports (Auditor)
  • Notification (Analyst)
  • Help (Analyst)

General Guidelines that should be noted:

  • Explore the Wireframe to follow the flow of the application.
  • The background must be fluid horizontally and content size should follow the storyboard.
  • All input elements (button, checkbox, radio button, text field) should follow the storyboard.
  • Implement hover state for all buttons and links as shown in storyboard.
  • Implement Pagination in all tables.
  • Implement Tree Navigation.
  • Use image properly, we prefer usage of CSS sprite for buttons.
  • Document all your JS codes for all parameters and functions (including params and its return value).

Following are specific requirements for HTML, CSS and Javascript files:

  • Your solution must be built using Kendo UI Framework.
  • Your HTML code must be HTML Doctype.
  • Validate your code, reviewers may accept minor validation errors, but please comment your reason for any validation errors. Use the validators listed in the scorecard.
  • Use CSS to space out objects, not clear/transparent images (GIFs or PNGs) and use proper structural CSS to lay out your page. Only use table tags for tabular data and not for page layout. No inline CSS styles, all styles must be placed in an external stylesheet.
  • Use semantically correct tags - use H tags for headers, etc. Use strong and em tags instead of bold and italic tags. Element and Attribute names should be in lowercase and use a "-" or camel naming to separate multiple-word classes (i.e. "main-content", or "mainContent".)
  • All JavaScript must not have a copyright by a third party. You are encouraged to use your own scripts, or scripts that are free, publicly available and do not have copyright statements or author recognition anywhere in the code. You are allowed to use the JQuery JavaScript library for this contest.
