Challenge Summary

Welcome to the ASME Portal Storyboard Contest. The American Society for Mechanical Engineers (ASME) would like to encourage and enlighten the youth of today (13-18 year old demographic) about engineering and the flexibility, excitement and rewards of all kinds of engineering careers by reaching them through gaming at the middle school level. 

For this contest, the goal is to design the web pages of about 3 to 5 pages that will be the face of the portal of ASME site that will host content about engineering roles, interesting stories, as well as content related to engineerng.

Round 1

1) Initial submission design of Home page and About page  mentioned in the Requirement section.
2) Any note for the client about your submission
3) Number your submission (01, 02, 03, etc...) for easy client's review

Primary Goal & Design Considerations
The primary goal of this contest is to design the pages of ASME portal with the objective of making the youth of today aware and enlightened about Mechanical Engineers and eventually encourage them into an Engineering career. 

Did you know that exposure to Engineering doubles teen's career interest? About 63% of teens have never considered a career in engineering (Engineering ranks only 11th out of 19 in a list of careers students are familiar with), 44% say they would consider engineering as a career if they knew more about it! 

Requirements

1. Overall Requirements:
- include a navigation for this portal, the navigation items are: Home | About ASME | Games | Resources
- use the provided ASME Foundation logo for the meantime, we will be asking for the source file of this logo from the client and we will provide it as soon as we can.
- use the Powered by NoNameSite.com in a secondary area 

2. Home page
Must have features:
- use or feature the ASME Foundation logo
- add spot for disclaimer on the bottom. Use Greek text for now.
- include social features such as Facebook, Twitter, etc

Features that you may also consider for this page:
- carousel to feature the games
- a teaser of games
- a short intro/teaser for about ASME
- featured article
- news section
- any feature that you may think it will be great to add on, specially the features that may encourage the youth to take Engineering career 

3. About ASME page

This will serve as the inner page of the portal, this page should be kid and parent-friendly brief description about ASME, the ASME Foundation, and its support of this project. The content for this page is:

4. Game main page
- this will be the main landing page where three games will be linked from (the games will not live on here)
- display 3 games in a way that users (kids 13-18) can easily see what the game is about and make it attractive for them to want to play them

5. Resources page
- this page will be used as a listing of resources content and links, use dummy text for now.

 

Branding Guidelines
- colors and fonts – should not too different from the ASME Org website. We want it to flow nicely to and from.
- clean and modern design
- should be cool and fun and stay away from cartoony images
- page width should fit in comfortably inside the 1024x768px screen resolution

Target Audience
-  middle school and high school students (13-18 year old demographic)

Judging Criteria
- You will be judged on how you convey the game to easily and quickly learn how to play
- Cleanliness, Creativity, and Graphics Appeals

Submission & Source Files
Preview Image
Create your preview image as one (1) 1024x1024 JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place a screenshot of your submission within it.

Submission File
Please upload PNG/JPEG images in a zip file with all requested contest requirements stated above.

Source Files
All original source files of the submitted design. Files should be created in Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator and saved as layered PSD/AI files.

Final Fixes
As part of the final fixes phase you may be asked to modify your graphics, images (sizes or colors) or modify overall colors.

Stock Photography

How To Submit

  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.

Your Design Files:

  1. Look for instructions in this challenge regarding what files to provide.
  2. Place your submission files into a "Submission.zip" file.
  3. Place all of your source files into a "Source.zip" file.
  4. Declare your fonts, stock photos, and icons in a "Declaration.txt" file.
  5. Create a JPG preview file.
  6. Place the 4 files you just created into a single zip file. This will be what you upload.
