Challenge Summary

The Healthcare Fraud Prevention Partnership (HFPP) is a U.S. government initiative to share data among health insurers in order to detect fraudulent reimbursement claims. The front end of the data exchange network is a web app that allows certain users to input and execute a study, which is a plan to collect and analyze data. In this contest, you will be making storyboards for a web application that implements the following functions:

  • entering the data requirements to execute a study
  • analyzing the data responses after the study has been executed

The attached wireframes define the user flow and screen layout of the interface. You are responsible for making graphic design choices and rendering the wireframes to a set of storyboards that will be used for UI prototyping.

Round 1

Implement the complete set of storyboards described below.

Round 2

Revise and refine your storyboards in response to checkpoint feedback.

Functional requirements

Follow the layout of the attached wireframes, leaving blank spaces in the following areas, which feature software components that are being developed separately.

  • rule editor
  • rule wizard
  • visual analysis charts

Placeholders indicate exactly what is to be left out of the storyboards. All other areas of the wireframes must be fully storyboarded for UI prototyping.

For background information on the concept of study management, you may consult the attached Conceptualization document. In addition, the wireframes contain helpful notes in the right margin.

The main tasks carried out by the user are the following.

  • Draft a study: The user receives a study concept from an external committee and enters the data requests in the form of business rules.
  • Observe study execution: When the user initiates execution, the draft study goes live. The user can observe network transactions while the study is in progress. Click on the study ID to view the transactional information screen.
  • Analyze data: When the user finalizes the study execution, the study goes into the data analysis stage. You can click on a study ID in the Completed pane to see the data analysis screen. The user can sort, filter, and visually analyze the claims here in order to determine the study result. The user can also generate a report on this screen.

Once a study is archived, the user can survey a historical record of the three main tasks listed above.

Style requirements

The web page is 1000 pixels wide.

The logo should consist of the letters "HFPP" in a font of your choice. Change the title at top from "HFPP Study Input Application" to "Study Management Interface".

Your choice of colors, fonts, and icons should be guided by the following values:

  • integrity: the goal of the HFPP network is reduce fraudulence, waste, and abuse in healthcare reimbursements
  • security: the HFPP insists on safeguarding the confidentiality of all healthcare data that passes through its network
  • public responsibility: the ultimate goal of the HFPP is to control the cost of healthcare insurance in order to benefit the general public

Just because we're building software in support of serious principles doesn't mean that your design has to be boring. It can be stylish and lively, but it must not be frivolous.

Target audience

Healthcare management professionals who are not necessarily IT experts.

Judging criteria

Completeness: Do your storyboards follow the wireframes as required?

Aesthetics and UX: Are your storyboards attractive and will they result in user-friendly prototypes?
