Challenge Overview
The Office of Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) at NASA Headquarters leads the Delay Tolerant Networking (DTN) investigation with the goal of advancing the maturity and heritage (space flight use) of the DTN communication protocols.
DTN is an approach to computer network architecture that seeks to address the technical issues in heterogeneous networks that may lack continuous network connectivity.
This deployment assembly is responsible for installing and configuring ION-DTN (http://sourceforge.net/projects/ion-dtn/) on Amazon EC2 virtual machines. The virtual machines must talk to each other using ION-DTN send and receive commands.
The Interplanetary Overlay Network (ION) software distribution is an implementation of Delay-Tolerant Networking (DTN) architecture as described in Internet RFC 4838. It includes implementations of the DTN Bundle Protocol, the Licklider Transmission Protocol, and two CCSDS application protocols that have been adapted to run over the BP/LTP stack: the CCSDS File Delivery Protocol and Asynchronous Message Service.
