Challenge Summary

Welcome to the PDC (Poster Design Contest) Voting Ballot Print Design Contest! We ran a poster design contest that enticed designers to design a poster about encouraging the youth of today to tap into an unknown talent they may possess and pursue that talent to grow and prosper to develop the next awesome technology of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Today, we have 10 finalists and we need to have a ballot for voting that will be given away to the judges, designers, and school kids to cast their votes. 

For this contest, your task is to design 1 voting ballot for print with the requirements outlined in the requirements section. 

Round 1

1) Initial submission design with all the features mentioned in the Requirement section. 
2) Any note for the client about your submission

1) Final submission design with all the features mentioned in the Requirement section plus any checkpoint update.

Primary Goal & Design Considerations
The primary goal of this contest is to design a ballot for voting showcasing the finalist, this voting ballot will be given to a group of judges during the TCO13 onsite events to cast their votes. 

We need to have a voting ballot design with the features outlined in the requirements section. 

Requirements
1. Content:
- title: "Girls in STEM Poster Design Contest Voting Ballot"
- the ballot should have a place holder for 10 designs numbered 1 - 10
- the place holder should include the title of the submission and its thumbnail (see the provided finalist.txt and finalist.zip for the list of finalist title and their corresponding images)
- sizes of the thumbnails is open and at your discretion on what you think it will best fit your design
- include this instruction: "Which poster do you think has what it takes to be the winner? Judge it on originality, design, and how it makes you feel about the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math. Please check off your design of choice."
- include a checkbox or similar where judges can select their vote
- include somewhere in your design the provided website graphics, you can re-organize however you like. 

2. Size:
- 5x7 inches plus 0.25 inch bleed, your design should be set to the final size plus bleed. It should be 0.25 inch larger than the required size (5x7 inch) 
- file resolution should be 300dpi minimum
- you can use the provided template as the base of your artwork

3. Colors:
- must complement the colors from this mini-site
- all colors should be in CMYK for digital print
- keep the gradients to a minimum level

4. Font & Lines:
- fonts smaller than 7pt is not recommended
- keep any lines at least 0.25 pts thick as thinner lines may not show on print

Submission & Source Files
Preview Image
Create your preview image as one (1) 1024x1024px JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place a screenshot of your submission within it. You are free to resize or crop your submission to fit this size, but do not add any filters or elements for dramatic effect, such as drop shadows or reflections.

Submission File
Low resolution JPG or PNG of your layout within the provided template with bleed.

Source Files
All original source files of the submitted design. Files should be created in Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape and saved as layered AI or EPS files. Provide a copy of your source file with outlined text version if you are submitting in AI file. 

Final Fixes
As part of the final fixes phase you may be asked to modify your graphics, images (sizes or colors) or modify overall colors. 

Please read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.

Stock Photography

Stock photography is not allowed in this challenge. All submitted elements must be designed solely by you. See this page for more details.

  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.

Submission format

Your Design Files:

  1. Look for instructions in this challenge regarding what files to provide.
  2. Place your submission files into a "Submission.zip" file.
  3. Place all of your source files into a "Source.zip" file.
  4. Declare your fonts, stock photos, and icons in a "Declaration.txt" file.
  5. Create a JPG preview file.
  6. Place the 4 files you just created into a single zip file. This will be what you upload.
