Challenge Summary

Welcome to Stone – Elevator Display CMS Design Contest. The purpose of this contest is to create the initial design concepts for a Web based Content Management System (CMS) which will be used for creating and managing content that will be displayed on a 10” (inch) LCD Screen to be installed in Elevators.

About the Client: 
Stone is the codename of the client, they are the manufacturer of people-moving products including elevators, escalators and moving walkways.

Contest Details
This Web based - content management system (CMS) will allow customers (building managers) to create/design and publish content to these display devices in elevators. The CMS will not only provide ability for customers to create/design their own content but also provide the ability to include content from 3rd party content providers. Examples of third party content are News feeds (from CNN, BBC), Weather, Sports news etc.

The "customer" referred in the above sentence is a building manager (of one or more buildings) who will have access to the Content Management System (CMS) to create/design content, schedule and publish to single or multiple display devices.

Design Considerations
- For this Web based Content Management system, you can use the width as 1024 px
and heigth as required
- See the attached examples to get an idea of the CMS for which we are expecting the design concepts and also it (
05_Preview-Run Display Signage.png) shows how the content will be shown on the display device in an Elevator. 
- Attached Screenshots are for reference purpose to help you understand this web application.

Required Functionalities:
Below are the required Functionalities/pages...

Content Management (CMS):
This Content Management System will have the following functionalities..
We need the ability to view
- Currently Active Programs
Scheduled Programs
- Past History of Programs

- How to show the above three pages, these pages need to have a list of devices with their locations and also need to display the programs that are currently running in those devices, they also need to display the information of its schedule (see below for more details on scheduling).
- We need to have the ability to Create/Edit and delete the programs in any of the devices. (See below on how to create New Programs)
- We need the ability to view/run the programs currently being displayed in a device. (See below)
- Provide option to bulk delete etc..
- Do we need option to filter the list?

Notes about Program: This refers to the list of content slides that need to be displayed on the display device in elevator.

Create/Edit, Schedule Programs:
Screen Layout:
- We need the ability to choose a screen layout from template library; this includes Landscape, portrait and screen partition layouts. 
These screen partition layouts includes Main Content area and also space for Content Widgets to be included – please see below for more information on content area and widgets.

Main Content Area: 
- User should be able to use contents from Library to create content slides. Please see Manage Library below for more information on this.
- As mentioned in the "Manage Library", they should able to design (add texts to images) and use them as a slide.

- User can choose any number of slides (images or background colors) and have the ability to sequence/rearrange slides.
- They should be able to specify the duration of display for each slide and transition.
- Transition can include fade in, fade out etc…it can also include the speed with which the trasitions should occur. For example: fade-in (2 secs) etc.

Content Widgets: 
- Need ability to select content widgets (Weather, Car Position Indicator (CPI), Next Stops, News headlines, System Messages etc.) into screen partition layouts.
- We will need to have an online store to purchase content widgets such as Weather, Headlines, Sports, Sports clips, Generic video Content.

- Purchased content will be shown in the library with quantity available. When a content widget is used in the program, then quantity available to allocate reduces.

Run Slides/Programs:
- We need the ability to preview the created programs, preview will be similar to something as shown in the attached image (
05_Preview-Run Display Signage.png).
- You can decide on how preview needs to be shown either in a modal window or in a new page.

Schedule Slides/programs:
- Specify start date, end date, start time, end time, day of the week (Monday to Friday), and priority (High, Low, Normal)
- Need ability to specify single, multiple, group of Display devices as target.

Manage Library:
We need the ability for an online storage to organize and store content. Content type includes pictures, audio and video files. We need these below functionalities:

- Provide ability to upload, move, rename, copy and delete files from library.
- Provide ability to create new image online for custom message slides and save to library if required.
- Ability to use existing image as background (or) create a background with color, gradient etc.
- Ability to add header, body and footer text on the image.
- Ability to specify various text attributes (font, size, and weight).
- Ability to edit text even after image is generated.

Research!
- Do you research on modern CMS Administration interafece design and features! (think WordPress, Django, Expression Engine etc)
- Research CMS UI/UX Design (link)

Branding Guidelines:
- Please follow the attached branding guidelines.

Target Audience: 
- All customers (Building Managers) who uses the CMS to manage contents displayed on a display device in Elevators.

Judging Criteria:
- How well you plan out and design the CMS Admin interface for the Content Management System
- Cleanliness of your graphic design.

Submission & Source Files:
Preview Image
Please create your preview image as one (1) 1024x1024px JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place a screenshot of your submission within it.

Submission File
Submit JPG/PNG for your submission files.

Source Files
All original source files of the submitted design. Files should be created in Adobe Photoshop and saved as layered PSD file.

Final Fixes
As part of the final fixes phase you may be asked to modify your graphics (sizes or colors) or modify overall colors. We may ask you to update your design or graphics based on other winning placements.

Please read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.

How To Submit

  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.

Your Design Files:

  1. Look for instructions in this challenge regarding what files to provide.
  2. Place your submission files into a "Submission.zip" file.
  3. Place all of your source files into a "Source.zip" file.
  4. Declare your fonts, stock photos, and icons in a "Declaration.txt" file.
  5. Create a JPG preview file.
  6. Place the 4 files you just created into a single zip file. This will be what you upload.
