Challenge Summary

Welcome to the TopCoder Design Recruitment Banners Design Challenge!
This contest is focused on creating 4 sets of banners for a campaign topcoder will run in order to attract new designers to the community (Information Architects, UX Designers, Mobile Designers). This will be a very high exposure project so get your creative juices flowing!

Round 1

Initial Design for the 4 Ad Design Concepts you will create.
- We need all banner sizes: 350x350,250x250,728x90,160x600,120x600,240x400, as shown in the Challenge Description.
- Please number files (01, 02, 03 etc.) - it’s easier to review with the client.
- Notes.jpg: Any comments about your design for the Client
 

Round 2

Complete Final Design for the 4 Ad Design Concepts you will create.
- We need all banner: 350x350,250x250,728x90,160x600,120x600,240x400, as shown in the Challenge Description.

- Notes.jpg: Any comments about your design for the Client


Contest Details:
The goal of this challenge is to for you to design 4 design concepts for a Recruitment advertising campaign topcoder will run.
We provided 9 concepts (see attached file) - your task is to explore each creative concept and pick 4 of them that you find most appropriate and push their limits, making them better.

Each of the 4 sets must contain a banner/ad in 6 sizes, so you need to adapt your design to fit the following sizes:
- 350x350
- 250x250
- 728x90
160x600
- 120x600
- 240x400

Please arrange the designs in each set as in our example provided in the attached file (find it at page 1 - "Sample Deliverable")

CONCEPT 1:
Education Concept:

1. Headline = Life Changing opportunities for students & designers
2. Sub-headline = Train. Compete. Dominate.
3. Call to Action = Challenge yourself now.
4. Design Direction = We want a mostly typographic banner with this message. Typography is something that is important to designers. We need a banner that show's a designers touch. We want to have an inspirational tone, so the addition of some inspirational photography as a background will reinforce this concept. look for photos of people training or achieving goals, or of inspirational scenery.

CONCEPT 2:
Sport Concept:

1. Headline = Bring your "A" game!
2. Sub-headline = Compete in Graphic Design Challenges
3. Call to Action = Bring it
4. Design Direction = We want a mostly typographic banner with this message. Typography is something that is important to designers. We need a banner that show's a designers touch. Have fun with your typography...make it "sporty" and colorful. You could possible incorporate sports themes or imagery into this banner.

CONCEPT 3:
Sport 2 Concept:

1. Headline = topcoder is looking for the ALL -STARS OF DESIGN
2. Sub-headline = Compete. Learn. Win
3. Call to Action = Enter to win!
4. Design Direction = We want a mostly typographic banner with this message. Typography is something that is important to designers. We need a banner that show's a designers touch. Have fun with your typography...make it "sporty" and colorful. You could possible incorporate sports themes or imagery into this banner. Possibly look to emphasize some aspect of an "all star". Look to work in star graphics or banners to give your banner a sporty look.

CONCEPT 4:
Community Concept:
1.Headline = We're short of a few players. Bring your "A" Game. Join the topcoder team!
2. Sub-headline = Graphic Design Challenge for the pros!
3. Call to Action = JOIN!
4. Design Direction = We want a mostly typographic banner with this message. Typography is something that is important to designers. We need a banner that show's a designers touch. Have fun with your typography...make it "sporty" and colorful. You could possible incorporate sports themes or imagery into this banner.

CONCEPT 5:
Money Concept:

1.Headline = Designers.
2. Sub-headline = Do you want to WIN CASH for your creativity?
3. Call to Action = Enter to win!
4. Design Direction = We want to emphasize the "cash" concept of this banner. Look to use icons or graphics that show money. Consider using green as a primary color. Look to use simple, impactful typography.

CONCEPT 6:
Money Concept:

1.Headline = Get paid to Design.
2. Sub-headline = Compete in UX/UI, logo, and mobile design challenges
3. Call to Action = Enter to win!
4. Design Direction = We want to emphasize the "cash" concept of this banner. Look to use icons or graphics that show money. Consider using green as a primary color. Look to use simple, impactful typography.

CONCEPT 7:
Rock Concept:

1.Headline = Designers that ROCK.
2. Sub-headline = Do you rock at design? Showcase your
talents on topcoder and win!
3. Call to Action =  Let's Jam!
4. Design Direction = We want to emphasize the rock poster look in this concept. Think battle of the bands competition poster. Use of musical icons and hip fonts is encouraged.

CONCEPT 8:
Warrior Concept:
1.Headline = Are you the ultimate design warrior?
Join the topcoder dojo.
2. Sub-headline = Train. Compete. Dominate.
3. Call to Action = BEGIN!
4. Design Direction = We want to play up the machoness of design competition. Think of karate, wrestling, ninjas, world of war craft. Think about working in competition into your imagery

CONCEPT 9:
Character  Concept:
1.Headline = Use any headline from previous concepts...or make up your own.
2. Sub-headline = Use any headline from previous concepts...or make up your own.
3. Call to Action = Use any headline from previous concepts...or make up your own.
4. Design Direction = For this concept we want to develop a graphic character who is either holding, thinking, or displaying the banner copy. The idea behind this is that we have a fun character that is representative of the design community on topcoder.

Branding Guidelines
- Open to the designer.

Target Audience
- New Information Architects, UX Designers, Mobile Designers

Reference Designs
- Please see attached reference file and carefully read the specs.
- Do NOT copy the reference designs; you have to submit original designs.

Judging Criteria
- How exciting your design is - has to make people in the targeted audience click on it.
- Cleanliness of your graphics and design.
- Typography.
- Originality and design execution.

What to Submit
Preview JPG/PNG Image File
Please create your preview image as one (1) 1024x1024px JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place a screenshot of your submission within it.

Submission ZIP File
All requested contest requirements/screens as JPG or PNG files.

Source ZIP File
All original source files of the submitted design. Files should be created in Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator and saved as layered PSD or AI file.

Final Fixes
As part of the final fixes for this contest, you may be asked to modify your graphics (sizes or colors) or modify overall colors.

Please read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.

How To Submit

  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.

Submission format

Your Design Files:

  1. Look for instructions in this challenge regarding what files to provide.
  2. Place your submission files into a "Submission.zip" file.
  3. Place all of your source files into a "Source.zip" file.
  4. Declare your fonts, stock photos, and icons in a "Declaration.txt" file.
  5. Create a JPG preview file.
  6. Place the 4 files you just created into a single zip file. This will be what you upload.

Fonts, Stock Photos, and Icons:

All fonts, stock photos, and icons within your design must be declared when you submit. DO NOT include any 3rd party files in your submission or source files. Read about the policy.

Screening:

All submissions are screened for eligibility before the challenge holder picks winners. Don't let your hard work go to waste. Learn more about how to  pass screening.
