Challenge Summary

Welcome to the HCB Connected Building Design Concepts Challenge! This challenge is focused on creating design concepts/visual ideas for a Desktop and iPad Application "Command Center" that would provide better services and insight so a Facility Manager can run building more efficiently.

We currently do not have any formal requirements. The application will be built on top of Salesforce so we are looking for you to provide design concepts and click-paths based on the provided user story. This is the first step in planning our new application!

In this contest we are looking for DESIGN CONCEPTS on how this application could work.

Round 1

Submit your initial design for a Checkpoint feedback

1. Command Center Flow - help show how this would look and work.
2. Services (Assets) Management.
3. Maintenance Schedule.
4. If you have time - a 1024x768 presentation/overview of your design.

Make sure all pages have correct flow! Use correct file numbering. (00, 01, 02, 03)

Round 2

Final Design plus any Checkpoint feedback
1. Command Center Flow
2. Command Center iPad View
3. Services (Assets) Management.
4. Maintenance Schedule.

Contest Description
HCB is helping customers manage their facilities. The goal of the application is to facilitate new ways of communicating and driving the right information to their customers. HCB customers are typically large facilities like Conference Centers, Airports, and large Universities. We are looking for the topcoder design Community to help us with planning our new "command center" user experience (UX).

The main customer/user of this application will be "Facility Managers". We want to help Facility Managers run their buildings more efficiently. We want to help them drive down their energy and operational costs. By providing them a "commend center" with details about their buildings we can help them be more proactive and less reactive. This will help drive costs down and be smarter with their resources.

Note: HCB is a codename for this project.

Design Concept Goals:
- How should this application look?
- Suggest user screen flows and navigation.
- What shoudl the priority "command center" features be?
- Realize there are now applications and UI's that manage your HVAC, Fire, Security systems - this "command center" would be a way to see and manage all of these items.
- What would be an engaging UX for a Facility Manager?
- Have fun creating this - let us know how you think it should work!
- We are looking for modern application design - do your research into HVAC, Fire and Security contol systems UX.

Design Concept Requirements
Please design your desktop screens and a couple of iPad screens to show how your concept will breakdown to tablets
Desktop: 1024px width, height is 768px. Please keep the main content within 960px width.
iPad: 1010px by 660px (or longer height wherever scrollable/required - but keep imoprtant content above the fold)

User Story
The Facility Manager is going to need timely information for key systems (Heat, Air Conditioning, Fire and Security, Video etc)  within their building. They need to keep tabs on the status of critical systems that they are responsible for. The "command center" would communicate with "system to person" and "person to person" features and alerts.

System to Person = The system alerting the Facilities Manager about performance alerts, alarms or equipment malfunctions.
Person to Person = discussions between the Facilities Manager and his engineering team or with key personnel at HCB. (example: chatter, Instand messaging etc.)

Systems or Assets fall into 4 primary buckets:
- HVAC systems
- Fire security products
- Access Control
- Video System

Examples of information that the systems and people need to provide are:
- Maintenance schedules (i.e. a filter needs to be changed or a chiller needs to be serviced)
- Alerts placed by systems or tenants in the building
- Alerts presenting energy saving opportunities
- Alert location in building
- Tenant Feedback -- "It's too hot in building 6"
- The Ability to make adjustments on systems such as turning the air conditing up or down on an HVAC system or turning an alarm off or on.

Design Requirements
1. Command Center: Building Manager Console

Design the Command Center user experience and click-path
- The Facility Manager logs into the application and they can see:
- Dashboard of widgets, controls and reports telling them what is going on within their building
- The ability to navigation to any of their systems
- The ability to see if any systems are not running efficiently
-
Services in the buidling that are not running efficiently (need to be shown on all views) those assets fall into 4 primary buckets:
- Maintenance Schedule.
- Tenant Feedback (using Salesforce Chatter)
- The a
bility to make adjustments on assets such as turning air up or down on an HVAC system or turning an alarm off or on.

2. Service Alerts and Management
- In this view Facility Manager will be able to view all assets that are not running efficiently.

3. Maintenance Schedule
- In this view Facility Manager will be able to view maintenance schedule for the building and assets.

4. Alerts
- In this view Facility Manager will be able to view all alerts in the building, if the manager clicks on one of the alerts he should be able to see:
A - Alert Feed.
B - Alert Schematics.
C - Service Tickets.
D - Maintenance History.

5. Tenant Feedback
- In this view Facility Manager will be able to view all tenants feedback (i.e. its too cold in building 4).
- Feedback will be displayed using Chatter like messages
