Challenge Summary
Giving Tuesday is a global day for giving back. Though it takes place on December 2, 2014, we are planning our own Giving Tuesday event at the 2014 Topcoder Open on November 18, 2014.
Because we're planning an event for the community to take part in, we'd like to ask the community to help us plan the activity with a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) theme and run it.
A huge part of this contest will be the prize and the responsibility of the winner. First place winner gets an all-expense paid trip to the 2014 Topcoder Open in San Francisco from November 16 - 19, 2014 worth over $3,000.
To be eligible to win this prize and trip, you must also be willing and able to travel to the TCO14 on said dates to enjoy the event and assist in running the activity. Prize is NOT convertible to cash neither transferrable.
At the 2014 Topcoder Open, we are planning a Giving Tuesday event for Tuesday, November 18, 2014. To learn more about Giving Tuesday, go here. The goal is to provide a STEM-themed activity where the topcoder community and attendees at the TCO can give back.
Requirements
In this challenge, we are asking you to help us decide what this STEM-themed activity at the TCO will be. We are looking for a hands on activity the entire audience can take part in as a group or individually throughout the day.
For example, at DreamForce last year, one morning they had a huge tent set up with tables of books, stuffed animals, blankets, and bags. Attendees were encouraged to stuff a bag with the items that would be donated for Project Night Night.
Here are some important notes about this activity to keep in mind:
Feasibility. How feasible is this activity for potentially up to 500 people? Is it feasible in the timing we have planned for this; one day.
Cost. Assume there is no cost associated with this project. The attendees would use their skills to donate something for this activity. Whether it be coding, designing, etc.
Organize. Organize your idea in the following way:
- Idea name.
- Brief summary of idea.
- Detailed description of idea.
- Timeline for idea.
- Resources (people, equipment, etc) needed.
