Challenge Summary
Welcome to the NASA Search Portal wireframe challenge! We need to develop an internet/intranet search portal. It needs to be intuitive and easy to use. Searching for information has become critical for gathering information or requirements for day to day work. NASA needs the ability to not only search against the regular internet, but also within the NASA intranet (content that is only accessible to NASA users).
This search capability needs to be so intuitive and easy to use that it doesn’t require anyone to be trained on how to use it. We will be providing you with basic direction and are looking for you to help us design the application user experience.
Round 1
Submit your design for a Checkpoint feedback:
- Your wireframe concept.
- Notes.jpg: Any comments about your design for the Client
Round 2
Final Design plus any Checkpoint feedback:
- Your final wireframe concept.
- Notes.jpg: Any comments about your design for the Client
Problem Background & Goal
NASA would like to build an Internet & Intranet search capability that includes content from various NASA centers along with integration of public content. A full list of the NASA centers can be found here. The goal of this challenge is to design an interface that allows users to add specific categories or allow users to narrow their search results based on defined categories.
Design Considerations
Keep these guidelines in mind while building your solution:
- It should be pleasing to look at
- The solution should catch peoples attention
- The solution should be designed as a good browser homepage for users
- While having a good looking solution, the functional aspects should not be hidden or be overshadowed by the design
- All features should be extremely intuitive
- Features should be easy to find and identify
- All functionality should have tooltips to further explain the feature
Required Features
The search portal design must including the following functionality:
- You must clear show what information is from the NASA intranet, and what information is from the public internet.
- Results must appear within 4 categories:
- NASA Center’s - This is data from a NASA regional office/facility. A list of NASA office/facilities can be found here.
- NASA Intranet - This is data that comes from NASA HQ.
- NASA Public Info - This is data that comes from nasa.gov.
- Public Internet - This is data that can be found on the public internet, like google.com
- On the Public Internet category, there should be narrower categories such as:
- Images
- USAJobs
- Video’s
- Wikipedia
Target Audience
NASA employees.
Screen Size
Desktop: 1024px and height as required.
Judging Criteria
- How well you plan the user experience and capture your ideas visually
- Cleanliness of your design
- User Experience
Submission & Source Files
Preview Image
Create your preview image as one (1) 1024x1024 JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place a screenshot of your submission within it.
Submission File
Generated HTML files with all the requested contest requirements stated above.
Source Files
Wireframes should be built in Axure. The resulting files should have generated HTML files. Also, all the content must be listed and the pages are linked together to show page flow.
Final Fixes
As part of the Final Fix phase, you may be asked to remove, update, or change some features of the wireframe.
Please read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.
