Challenge Summary

Welcome to the NSP – NASA Search Portal Design Challenge! We need to develop an internet/intranet search portal. It needs to be intuitive and easy to use. Searching for information has become critical for gathering information or requirements for day to day work.

NASA needs the ability to not only search against the regular internet, but also within the NASA intranet (content that is only accessible to NASA users). This search capability needs to be so intuitive and easy to use that it doesn’t require anyone to be trained on how to use it.

We’ve already completed the wireframes, so you’ll have a quick start once you register for this contest.

Problem Background & Goal
NASA would like to build an Internet & Intranet search capability that includes content from various NASA centers along with integration of public content. A full list of the NASA centers can be found here. The goal of this challenge is to design an interface that allows users to add specific categories or allow users to narrow their search results based on defined categories.

Design Considerations
Keep these guidelines in mind while building your solution:

·        It should be pleasing to look at
·        The solution should be designed as a good browser homepage for users
·        While having a good looking solution, the functional aspects should not be hidden or be overshadowed by the design
·        All features should be extremely intuitive
·        Features should be easy to find and identify
·        All functionality should have tooltips to further explain the feature
·        REMEMBER: DO NOT COPY the wireframes exactly - The wireframes are meant to help guide you and let you understand the application the audience would like to see designed. Think about the user experience/user interactions and show us your solutions! You can do something different or whatever you think make sense.
·        Review the wireframes - they are very detailed and will help, but do not copy 100% the layout, be creative!
