Currently there is no check-in, micro-donations, calendar or social functionality; these will be new features in the app. Currently, the mobile registration section uses MoovWeb to manage responsive pages on mobile devices. There are 2 iOS mobile apps exists in appstore that mostly point to mobile responsive site.

The URL is m.relayforlife.org. Current screenshots included for reference. Use these resources to get initial ideas to come up with application flow and designs.

Primary Goals:

Event Experience App features:

  1. Registration/check-in – Allow event participants to register and check in on-the-go. Each year millions of volunteers, participants and staff participate in Relay For Life, Making Strides, and other ACS events. The current registration and check-in process is manual, slow, and frustrating. We want to provide a solution that will address these problems so people at the event can focus on enjoying the event, not standing in long lines.
  2. Micro-donations – Users can accept and track micro-transactions at the event. Some money is raised on event day, but we can help increase that by providing an easy way to take micro-donations during event activities (bake sales, carnival games, etc.).
  3. Calendar – Supporters can view times and locations of events. Making the map and activities schedule for events available via mobile will improve the experience for attendees.
  4. Social – Attendees can easily communicate via social media to generate buzz around the cause. Better integration with Facebook and other social sites can help increase support, attendance, and possibly even donations.

Target Audience:

The number of users could vary from thousands to even tens or hundreds of thousands. American Cancer Society provide assistance to millions of cancer fighters, caretakers, and loved ones. We also welcome more than three million participants at 5,000+ Relay For Life events and 1 million at nearly 300 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events. Depending on the app user experiance, the audience could multiply exponentially once the new app adoption is successfull.

Design Guidelines:

Can follow existing responsive web site m.relayforlife.org for branding, ACS Logo and color schems can be used as well. However there is not a strict branding guideline fo this design challenge.

Design Concept Goals:
- How should this application look?
- Read the user story and decide what should the priority features be (what is the priority navigation for this user?)
- How quickly the users can find what they are looking for?
- The application should be easy to use.
- Think simple but effective solutions! Have fun creating this - be creative and let us know how you think it should work!
- Feel free to explore the design and come up with good ideas to provide simple and great user experience with Relay for Life events for ACS.

Screen Sizes:
- Mobile: 320px x 480px Portrait (target devices iPhone 5-6)

Judging Criteria:

- Creativity in the design to help define how volunteers will register and participate in events.
- How well you plan the user experience and capture your ideas visually
- Cleanliness of your graphics and design
- Design should possible to build and make sense as a mobile application
