Challenge Summary

Welcome to the "SHIELD - Security Prediction HUD App Design Concepts Challenge". This challenge is focused on creating design concepts/visual ideas for a new type of user interface called HUD (head-up display). We are looking to explore some cool interface design that will work with a “head-up display” application. This unique mobile application will be used by public safety officers (firefighters/police/ambulance) when they are approaching a situation/location with little or no prior information.

We are looking for your design expertise and skills to learn and explore HUD and to propose interface design concepts and user interactions for a HUD type application.

In this contest we are looking for DESIGN CONCEPTS on how this mobile application could work. What should the user see and experience when using the application? Join this cool challenge now and enjoy the fun!!

Design Problem
We want to design a new mobile application that can be used by public safety officers like firefighters/police/ambulance paramedics when they are approaching a situation/condition with little or no prior information. This unique application will use a “head-up display” (HUD) technology to show the user what is happening at the location in real time. This "future" application would pull information from various internal sources as well as social media, open databases, and other data streams or sources. By moving the data to the HUD display in their vehicles they can know the situation and can use this knowledge to ensure their safety and to decide the best action that should be done in that particular situation/condition.

Firefighter User Story
John is a firefighter for the city of Chicago. One day when John is on a shift his station house gets a call to a building that has been reported to have been on fire. John quickly enters the address of the building into his SHIELD APP and is given the quickest route to the building using real time traffic updates and alerts on his SHIELD heads up display.

Upon arriving at the scene John and his crew have limited information about the building that they are approaching. Using their SHIELD APP via his HUD display on his helmet, John and his crew are able to access information about the building and the surrounding area. They quickly find out that the building that they are approaching is a tire factory. The building information pulls up schematics and floor plans giving John and his team the best information about what they can expect once they get inside and potential problem areas. The APP also displays the number of people who might be in the building to let the fire fighters know if they need to rescue anybody as well.

After they’ve entered the building the firefighters can use their SHIELD APP to get real time updates from their team and are given advice on which areas of the building they should put fires out in first.

The smoke is getting thick and John and his team are unable to see more than 2 feet in front of them. The SHIELD heads up display gives them directions on how to get to the closest escape route and gives them directions (left, right, up, down) to get to safety.

After getting his team out of the building, John is able to make sure that everyone is safe and sound because his SHIELD APP tells him that all of his team is accounted for. But John see’s that one of his fellow fighters is having problems breathing because his vitals are running high. SHIELD recommends that John call an ambulance for his team member and the SHIELD APP requests an ambulance to the scene.

The fire is burning out of control now and John takes a picture of the building with a smart device. The SHIELD APP runs an algorithm and determines that the fire fighters best approach to this burning building is to call in a ladder truck to fight the fire externally with additional fire departments to help control the growing fire. John makes the request and 2 additional fire departments arrive on the scene and they are able to gain control of the scene.

Additional Notes:
- Solution should also involve bringing video and other content to police and firefighters in the field.
- Think about how the heads up display could be used in helmets too. Keeping the system hands free is critical. "If you look specifically at firefighters, when they run into a building, they never run into a building empty handed," says Van Der Zaag, whose team runs into blazing buildings alongside firefighters during training drills. So if they want to access critical stats, such as a heart rate, "they can't really pull out a smartphone in the middle of a building to get that information." The head-up display shows firefighters when battery levels, oxygen supplies, and even their own heart rates are reaching critical levels.

Suggested Screens :
00. Logo and Navigation Solution
- Create simple logo for this application. Think about "Security", "Safety", "Risk", "Information" when designing the apps logo.
- Assume the logo would appear as the application is starting up
- Provide a clear navigation concept for this application.
- Keeping the system hands free is critical, so think about navigation that can be triggered by voice commands for an alternative besides screen touch.
- Please design a navigation solution that would be easy/engaging for a the application user!

01. HUD Dashboard Screen
- By default this screen will be shown every time this application active.
- What kind of information should be appear here? Useful information about the location/situation condition?
- GPS Trigger automatically when user open the apps?
- Information about all equipment status that currently being used by the firefighter?
- Or maybe some information to calls backup/send emergency signals? etc?
- Think and Explore on how this screen should be created! Use your imagination!
- So you need "key navigation items" that could trigger items to appear on the screen.
- Think of this being on a large "car windshield" and on a smaller firefighter  "helmet shield"

02. HUD Search Information Screen
- Users can navigate to search screen.
- User can use GPS and click/tap the map button or use voice commands to get location information and others information like security information, weather, people living in the areas, criminal case reported in the apps, and other important informations.
- User also can type location information manually, via voice commands or typing it manually.
- Maybe some filter area to limit what kind of search result needs to be displayed?
- any other ideas how user can use search screen? Show it to us!!
- Think and explore on how this screen should be created! Use your imagination!

03. HUD Information Result Screen
- Once user click/tap the search function, SHIELD application will gather all information from various of source and presented it in this screen.
- Maps location, basic information like weather, people lives in the neighbourhood, distance to nearest police station, how many backup is on the way, criminal case reported in this location will be presented in this screen.
- Since the informations being presented will be huge, please provides some layout solution where user can saw all important information in a great UX. you can use widget, layered, accordion menu, and other layout ideas to arrange the information from important to less important.
- User should have an ability to hide/display any information that they think important or not important.
- User should be able to navigate to activity progress screen or scoring risk result screen from this screen. Information gathered from this screen can be seen from those 2 screens too.
- Think and Explore on how this screen should be created! Use your imagination!

04. HUD Scoring Risk Result Screen
- Users can navigate from information result screen to this screen to get advice/prediction from SHIELD application
- SHIELD application will process all information result regarding condition/situation in that particular ideas and will provides the scoring risk.
- Scoring risk result can be vary, from DANGER to SAFE based on the scoring process (assumed the algorithm to process all information exist)
- If scoring risk shows dangers, there should be some advice list that should be done by user. Maybe contact backup, retreat, or checking the surrounding first.
- If user decides to continue their activity after saw the scoring risk result screen, it should navigate them to Activity progress where user can interact with the SHIELD apps in real time.
- What else? Show us your creativity!!

05. HUD Activity progress screen
- User and SHIELD apps will be coordinate in this screen.
- SHIELD will monitors the user location, and process any related information near by the user location like floor plan, building maps, user equipment and give some real time advices about what action/condition that needs to be done in user situation.
- Think about JARVIS from Iron Man movies!

06. HUD Settings Page
- SHIELD application would have a setting panel to configure how this application would work or be customized to the user
- Connectivity for HUD and Mobile Phone?
- Display Brightness?
- GPS On/OFF
- Any other ideas? Show it to us!!

07. Presentation
- We would like to see your final screens (at size) but if you have a way to demonstrate or "mock-up" a specifci screen(s) to show us how it might look displayed in on a Windshield or Helmet - please give this a shot. It will help demostrate your solution to our customer.

Notes about Head Up Display (HUD) Technology:
- Have you ever heard about HUD technology? This technology usually being use by military jets to show information regarding flight status, however, this technology is now available for vehicles/cars etc.
